  1. Thanks to you Maria and your team for a great match ...congrats for your win and great competitive spirit ..... To my team I apologise for not finding that extra $25 to snatch victory from Porky (always a challenging opponent) me thinks i probably did to much Watching Maria and co dancing !!!) THANKYOU Peter J for stepping in while i was in hospital recovering from some challenging procedures and surgery, and looking after the team and my selections. To the Seagulls congrats and to Barellan comiserations To all teams from the ESCAPISTS thanks for your matches and your friendly enjoyable banter and challenges throughout this competition that ONCE AGAIN WAS SO ABLY ORGANISED AND WELL RUN BY OUR TOP GUY PETER J !!! I may be pre-empting things but there may be a bottle or two of Moet coming from MAXI 🙃

  2. A grand ending to this latest highly enjoyable and entertaining PJ Comp - I've always said it, PJ Comps are the best racing comp show in town and they always have been. I fully endorse people's observations that this latest edition was a classic with the skill, banter and good playing spirit from the many participants. Hearty congratulations again go to the Mighty Seagulls - a very impressive performance from a top team expertly put together and captained by Pete. Well done Pete, Sharne, Hesi, Maurice and Stevie P. You'll all be well sought after in this coming week's draft draw for the next comp. Well done my Team Barellan - with standouts including Tom the Terror who is as formidable an opponent as can be found in these comps. It will be no surprise to anyone that it was Tom who steered his team-mates the way of Brooklyn Hustle in the last today, and we jumped on with our BBs. And lf course good ole bro '10 from 12' Geoff the Just Plodded no more, who kept us at the forefront of contention throughout this comp, valiantly supported by that great team man Craig. Thank you all for your excellent companionship these past several weeks, and I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again in the next comp. Mighty, mighty performance again from you PJ in running these superbly organised comps. Very much appreciated ...always. You're an absolute legend. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, folks. Still there...Rees ?? 😃

  3. Cheers for the match today Barellan 🥂 .. and I say that with gusto with a red in hand 🍷 courtesy of the Cellar spoils 🙂 Well done Geoff 🙂 one of my fave people to play in comps, we always have a good match as we seem to often select similar horses, it's just the second selection that trips us up.. today you second guessed the better of me and good on ya 🙂 Plenty of juice left in our tanks yet.. so my lovely fun team let's roll on with the Show! 💃

  4. Thank you all for the positive comments on our wee girls courageous win today. It was very exciting to have her back up and grind out a very tough win. To get a win at Trentham was great - it is a bloody long straight alright. We are now adjusting our heights and she will likely run next at hastings in 3 weeks and then have a brief freshen up and head for a nice race at Riccarton in August. She goes to stud in September but we will get her back and race through to Xmas then she can enjoy being a Mum and Prioress can take the lead for the team. An exciting day and about to crack another Pinot Gris. Thanks again to you all...

  5. Well done Pete and your winning Seagulls Sharne, Stevie P, Maurice and Hesi. You've had a great competition, and ultimately proven too strong in the run to the line. A very well chosen team, Pete ! You're doing these Draft Comps very well. Congratulations from us all at Team Barellan. Glad we kept it interesting for so long.

  6. Thanks everyone for the more than usual amount of banter this week, always in good spirit. Everyone has their own style and spin, which all continues to add to the great legacy of these comps, and the only way we can come even remotely close to repaying Peter for the huge effort he puts in each week

  7. Sir Rex ...you are an absolute inspiration. Though the ole health isn't always where you'd like it to be, you've always got a smile on your face and a cheery word or three for your team-mates and all competitors. You are the very essence of what these comps are about ....and I for one am very grateful for your unfailing good nature through all obstacles. And you're an excellent tipster to boot ! 🙂. I have noted that PJ always lifts his tipping skills a notch when he's putting in replacement selections for you ...he doesn't want to be seen as letting down your brand ! 😃 . I was the same, when I was fortunate enough to be your team captain several months back. 🙂 Well done on topping the Magnificent Seven list. Top stuff.

  9. Thanks Howie. The team have been ultra consistent apart from Hesi who is the weakest link. Nah just kidding it's been great and we've constantly posted good aggregates. On a much more general note thanks to PJ of course and all participants (even those who kept posting in the wrong places, I forgive you 😃)

  12. Relief at last for the comp titans, the pseudo-legends, we Barellan. Surprisingly bowled over the past 2 Saturdays in Group 1 affairs against firstly the Ramones and latterly the Escapists, we Barellan find ourselves benefitting this coming Saturday from the 'drop back' programme where we find ourselves in a Rating 65 lineup against a fair to middling opposition the Maxis. Admittedly with our near impeccable record we've been accorded a prohibitive 73 kgs topweight by the handicapper honchos against a lightweight opposition .... but we'll still go out as red hot favourites to right those wrongs that came our way the past 2 Saturdays. Looking back on their record we can see that the Maxis have slithered and belly-flopped their way to very late surprise successes in most of the few matches they have won ..... but there'll be no late surprises for the Barellan this coming Saturday, we'll be putting the Maxis away well before R10. There'll be no late revival from the 'comeback kids' in their traditional 'dance by the desperates' final race cameo. The Barellan will have been off and gone. Well done Seagulls 🙂 a great match with a topsy turvy day in results... it became apparent early on that anything could win 🙂 A fun day and a call out to Pete.. beaut Q result and Sharne, nice tipping in the last.. Showtime! 💃 .. on we roll.. great day 🙂 for team total and well done all, you each contributed to us getting the point .. next call out to Gordy, you wanted to burst the bubble and you did that my friend .. well done you 😉 Cheers Peter and roll on next week 🙂

  14. Drat ! Barellan 3rd of 3 in the aggregates ! and no Team Profit. Bad call by me today. No matter .... not every day can be a successful day, and Team Barellan still played well. But outplayed by the Maxis and the Ramones. Well done Maxi and Pam ...excellent pressure play and win in the last. Gonna make the last few rounds very interesting, as us Team Barellan strive to hold on to our now very narrow lead in this comp. Fortunately we've got the personnel to do just that ....hold on to win this whole thing ! 🙂 Some excellent scoring through the various matches today. Some very astute tipsters to the fore. Thanks PJ for another excellent day's entertainment ...... thrilling to the very end. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, folks. And you other miscellaneous outfits ..... watch out for the big Barellan bounceback next Saturday. You've been warned ! 😁

  15. First things first… THANKS PJ for another magnificent Comp, made even more mag by your timely updates and scenarios as each match unfolds. Second things second. CONGRATS to the Seagulls, very worthy winners – well done Pete, Steve, Sharne, Maurice and Hesi. Howie will have to rearrange that bare-looking mantelpiece. Bugger! Commiserations. Barellan, great effort. Third things third. THANKS, Maxis…Pam, Rob, Graeme and Blind Squirrel … great fun to play alongside you all…though we came up short a touch too often and never quite managed a 5-zip win to catch up! It was Max’s pleasure and privilege to be your ‘Kapitan’ as Rob would say ..don’t look too closely at your noble leader’s results today, please. Bit embarrassing! Last things last …a couple of personal observations …the vast majority of us don’t know each other personally, and that’s fine. But we share this love of racing for different reasons, in different places and circumstances. Great to see Gazza’s horse win at Trentham today; fab to see Heather’s Countofmontecristo finish well for 4th first-up in Sydney. Max is also STOKED that Sir Rex is outta hospital and ‘baaaccckkk’ post-surgery; and I know Rob has done it tough visiting and caring for his bro every day for weeks … these Comps of PJs are bloody good fun and free ‘medicine’ for us all, whatever our trials and tribulations. Take care, everyone, til we catch up again in the next Super Duper PJ Comp. (Note to self: start studying, Max; it's next weekend.) MM xo

  25. Some very good scoring today through the various teams ....... some individuals were right on to it. Congrats to our opponents the Maxis who did some great work (particularly early on) and came away with a welll-merited win over us Barellan. 3-2 sounds relatively close, but to be honest it wasn't a great Barellan performance today and the score probably flattered us in the end. Good wins to Tom the Terror and Punter Pete gave us some respectability. Well done my opponent Captain Maxi, leading from the front and too strong for me today. On the brighter side for us Barellan, we're one of only 2 teams able to take out this Autumn Championship, so well done my "teamies" for getting us this far and putting us in with a shot. The Seagulls came back well today to take out victory in their match and propel themselves 4 points clear in the lead and in so doing making our job next week a very difficult one. Difficult .... but not insurmountable. 😀. With "teamies" like Tom, 9 from 11 😄, Craig and Punter Pete, anything is possible. Certainly we're gonna have to be at the top of our games, as our final round opponents the 'Ardern Up' are formidable opposition and have done really well these past recent weeks. Thanks for another great day's entertainment today, PJ. Winning or losing, it's always absorbing stuff. Best show in town. Always. See you next Saturday, folks. Seagulls ....be very afraid ..... the Barellan are a comin' for ya ! 😃

  27. Tough day at the office today for us Barellan .....sailing along beautifully through the NZ leg but crashing to the turf once we crossed the Tasman. Hearty congrats to PJ and his 'Escapists' who unleashed their full arsenal of 'value' tipsters - the lethal triumvirate Sir Rex, Roland and Jen - to great effect. Top scores from all three and well done to you, great effort. And speaking of great efforts - our Barellan tipster Punter Pete was absolutely superb today and pretty much carried the team. $604.80 was a marvellous individual score. Well done, Punter Pete ! Honourable mention also for our Geoff - who is no longer Just Plodding but is now out to the ultra-impressive record of 9 wins from 10 starts. Legend ! 🙂. Cuts it fine in several games, but always sticks the beak out to best effect. After a long period leading this comp we Barellan now slip back to 2nd ...only one point adrift of pre-start comp favourites the Seagulls. With only 2 rounds to play there is obviously plenty to play for ...and we remain a likely contender for taking out this whole thing. In reality I believe it comes down to 3 teams with winning chances - the Seagulls - the Barellan - and with an inspired Joker play - the Escapists. The rest looking to make up the First Four. I'm sure people in the other teams will have an entirely different view. 😄., which they will have no hesitation in sharing with me. Thanks for another excellent day's entertainment, PJ. It was a lot of fun, as always, with the customary snatching of victory from the jaws of defeat for teams in two of the three matches. Gripping drama. 😀 Congratulations again to all those who scored so well today. There's certainly many very canny tipsters in this comp. You can wake up now, Rees. Today's story is over. Finally. Congratulations on being the No.1 Tipster in the comp today, Rees. I never doubted you for a minute ....well, maybe one ........ no ......I never doubted you for a minute. 🙂

  30. Thanks for the game today, Showtime. You stretched us right to the wire, and I'm confident you've got a couple more wins in you yet before this comp is done. Big thanks to the Escapists who did us a big favour taking down the comp favourites the Seagulls, courtesy of a very entertaining (unless you're a Seagull) Jen/Roland longshot cameo that ultimately sunk the Seagulls without trace. Time is running out now for the Seagulls, the clock is ticking 🙂.... but with a Joker in hand and the firepower in their roster all hope for them is not lost .... not completely ........ yet. 😄. Buth their Joker play is gonna have to be pretty damn good. 🙂 Well done to my trusty band of Barellan team-mates on your efforts today ...... especially Geoff now sitting on 8-1 and leading the way in terms of consistency; plus Craig nailing his Best Bets both sides of the Tasman and a glorious dollar tally the result. Tom the Terror now 7-2 and an absolute powerhouse for the team. Punter Pete unlucky, but always a threat. Thanks for another tremendous day's racing entertainment, PJ. Well done on your team's win. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, folks.

  41. Ardern Up are going to have a big say in who wins this comp. Facing the top pair in their final two games. Gotta feel for The Ramones -4 team members in profit - big aggregate score - 5 zip ahead at the halfway point - and they still went down in the last by a head....

  43. Tis the morning after the afterparty after the Moet party. Max is struggling to remember what he wants to forget, so that’s probably a good thing. Nice win over the Ramones, Maxis, but you almost gave Captain Max heart failure leavin’ it til the last. What’s that? MY fault? Don’t be ridiculous…Max had Gee covered all the way. Anyway, hats off to Piccadilly Pam AGAIN, deliverin’ the goods like a good girl should…and The Fox of Brown had a fab day out collecting around $450. No bonus points, though, Maxis …next week we’ll have to be on fiy-ah! Commiserations, Ramones. A tight battle with some grand returns (esp Dino, Rees) – glad we didn’t do the Joker thing, woulda got us nowhere fast. Strange thing about these PJ Comps….you and your team can go from Zero to Hero velly velly quickly …and still go down the leaderboard!! Thanks one and all – and esp to PJ for another beaut Saturday of running commentaries and updates for us all. Next Sat will need to be showtime for the Maxis ..unless Max can be convinced to take on Barellan with the Joker in Rd 13 (maybe they've peaked on their run and Showtime are getting into stride! They scored heavily yesterday. Food for thought, eh Howie?) Time to sign off before Max threatens Howie's record for short novels post-match ... toodle-oo toodle-oo. MM

  44. Funny you should point that out Max .. when I was 6 we did a South Island tour in our Velox and I was in the backseat with my brother Dave and my nana with her fur coat and a two bar heater, she was sure the South Island would be cold.. so we were rather crammed.. but I digress.. and we stopped in Ross at the possum fur factory and as we were walking around I saw a cute little ball with a tail and two pins for eyes (you wouldn't be allowed that now in our PC world) and I said to Ern (my dad) I want that.. it was like 50 cents 🙂 and the lady said well.. if you're going buy that you can only call it one name... she said.. you have to all it Eek! .. she said this little guy has been stepped on a couple of times by workers here and each time they did they squealed eeek! ... so I bought him (well Ern did) - he was duly crowned Eek and he lived with me for a very long time.. he even got posted back to me from the Aldermans (Philip's parents) when I left him there after a weekend ... so .. hearing Eek in any form.. is awesome to me 🙂 There is some useless trivia for a Saturday early evening 🙂
