  1. I have now been to three games at The Wellington Stadium and for all of these there has been no vocalist for the National Anthems and the same for other games that I have watched on Sky. So, for the Norway game the anthem was sung in Māori by the crowd.
  2. Get a life. Even the Aussie have honoured the Aborigines before The Matilda's game.
  3. Well, it is an official NZ Language. Do you want the Haka performed in English?

    ONZM

I am really pleased that Barry Pickering former All Whites Goalkeeper has been awarded the MNZM. Barry represented NZ while firstly playing for Stop Out and then Miramar and since retiring has dedicated himself to his first Club, Petone.
  5. It does not matter what the GST content is because they would claim that back as a rebate. Your mob when in power they were selling off state houses because crooked Bill English was demanding a $500m per annum dividend to the Government from the then Housing Corp so to achieve this they had to sell Sate houses.
  6. The Welsh Rugby have got more to worry about. Currently the Taffies are having a debate as to whether their National Sport is Football or Rugby. I have no idea how you would decide that but given that Football is a far bigger participation sport in NZ and stuff all people go to Club, NPC games then maybe we should have the same debate. One thing is for certain though Ranfurly Shield Fever is no more. Wellington holds it and no one cares. At their first defence stuff all turned up.

    Football WC

Well, there is over 200 nations that enter the World Cup and many top-rated nations miss qualifying for the final 32 i.e. Italy for the last two World Cups. There were some in The Aussie media saying that making the last 16 was the greatest moment in Aussie sport. In 2010 we were unbeaten but did not qualify beyond the group stage and won the Supreme Halberg award. However, there was some sheep shagger supporter from down south who got quite upset as he was under some illusion that Rugby Worldwide was a bigger sport. Of course, if you put it in world terms Rugby is Dannevirke and Football is New York

Speaking of beaches and football, a few years ago we spent a week in Portugal and visited a few beaches. The beach In Albufeira was most impressive. It was packed with locals playing volleyball with a football heading it over the net rather than using hands and they were very impressive with some points lasting for long periods. Also heaps of beach football. Little wonder they are so good at the game.

We have only just reached the quarter finals and what amazing drama to date. Little wonder it is called "The Beautiful Game".

I enjoyed the Argentina v Aussie game. Argentina deserved to win but for a great save from the Argentina goalie, it may have gone to extra time. If Messie has an average game someone needs to step up for them because he was magnificent today.

Neymar is out for the rest of the group stage with an ankle injury and Danilo is also out for the next game with an ankle injury. Neymar came in for some special attention from Serbia and they dished him out and other Brazilians some crude tackles. Problem is that last World Cup Neymar rolled around like a prize wanker every time an opposing player went near him, so most this time just thought "here we go again its Neymar"

Ooops my apologies, I did mean Tyler Adams, mixed him up with another Leeds squad player Tyler Roberts
  14. I played Softball in my younger days as did most in the Wellington region. For many years The National Championship was mainly between Hutt Valley and Wellington with Auckland getting the odd look in. In fact, the game was so big, Wellington and Hutt Valley had their separate competitions.

I enjoyed the England v USA game and as a Leeds supporter I watched with interest the performance of Tyler Roberts. In my biased opinion he has been one of the stand outs of the World Cup to date.
  16. I recall it well Hesi. Started out at the Levin Racing Club Offices with Cocktails on the Tuesday evening and then onto the Cozzie Club for the Calcutta which went into the early hours. All the owners and trainers were there, and the Calcutta pool reached around $30k. Up next morning for the brunch on course before the races. Then a great day's racing followed by a few beers and a card session which would go until the next morning. Then home to recover.

Gee Canada were very impressive against Belgium except when they got anywhere near goal. Over 20 shots on goal, many poorly directed including a missed penalty.
  18. Compare that passion with going to an All-Blacks home game. You wait until about the 65 minute and if you listen very carefully you might just hear a chant whispered "All Blacks, All Blacks"
  19. Well, when I have been in The Uk, I must have been reading the dirty old rags. I have no recollection of any Rugby more than a Column in any newspaper. In fact, Nelson has had more columns.
  20. The Womens' Rugby World Cup Is "World famous" only in NZ. The English public would not care a toss. When the Sunday papers come out, they will have 20 pages on Football and if Rugby is lucky, they might get a column.
  21. Weaver and The Fat Butcher, what a dynamic duo. Claimed that the Auckland Cup would be "The race that stopped two nations". In the end those attending Cup Day on a Wednesday were down to a few A Listers and the barmen
  22. I recall a couple of years ago the Catholic Church sold about 8 churches in the Wairarapa due to virtually nil attendance. In 2019 whilst we were in London we had a spare morning, so we jumped on one of those scenic double decker's. The Guide on the bus informed us as we went past a cathedral that in the 19th century it was law that everyone had to attend church, and many were arrested and tried for not attending.
  23. Well, I did exactly that back in the 70s, in fact many baby boomers did. I admit that I was lucky I worked in IT and the computer system of the organisation I worked for was only available for me to carry out development work on a Sunday evening. So, it was minimum 4 hours double time. The Womens World Cup is a farce, only 12 teams and I heard Cocksedge saying something like the world is watching. In 2017 I was in the UK while The Womens World Cup was being played and I never saw anything in the media.

    Preston

Looks like Preston dealt to Steve Bruce who was sacked as Manager of West Brom after their loss away to Preston last week.
  25. You would have seen John Fashinu. He came out in the early 80s to play for Miramar. He took no prisoners
