  2. my comment was in no way intended to disrespect Peter's effort there's been plenty of comments on this thread prior to today that diverge from the comp results you think my comment about a captain not checking for scratchings is disrespecting Peter's efforts, but the fact that a captain can't be arsed is not disrspecting the comp??
  3. i thinka while back he said something like he doesn't have time to chase after his teammates picks didn't have time to check his Randwick selections for scratchings either possibly missed the captaincy brief!? little wonder everyone plays their joker against his team
  4. thanks for posting those Howie - thought I had posted - not sure what happened

  6. yeah she met Cylinder 6 kgs better off compared to the Newmarket and it made all the difference - Cylinder struggling on the turn despite the better draw

  8. no you seem to be unable to read my posts properly. nowhere on this thread have I referred to the impact of weight relative to price, race outcome, punting success, etc.. my initial comment was in response to someone saying that 5kgs of extra weight wouldn't slow a horse down - I commented that the laws of physics mean that it should. that's all that I've said, you seem to be reading other stuff into this however I will defer to your superior intelligence, which you continue to seek to demonstrate (in a painfully sanctimonious fashion) and I will concede that you know more than every trainer (and handicapper) in the world who think that weight does make a difference
  9. good point, clearly might have been better examples to use than the events of the early ‘40s
  10. read my posts again and a little more carefully I'm not professing to know how much difference weight makes to a horse's time over various distance, that is obviously impossible to determine with any accuracy (as the articles go on to state) I was just responding to your statement that a 5kg weight difference wouldn't cause a horse to run slower both articles, and basic physics, tell you that you are wrong ps. I thought you left? you've come back more times than Mike Tyson! 🙂
  11. the second para of the article Curious posted "undoubtedly there must be some effect of weight" it's simple physics
  12. yes! as per the article on the previous page A basic understanding of the laws of physics tells you that weight carried has to have some impact on the speed at which a horse can run.
  13. no show without Punch 🙂 if Hesi has any aspirations for this site to be taken seriously in the racing industry then he should perhaps think twice about making statements that trainers in NZ are just blindly believing and following what their predecessors told them of course if he wants to keep this site to the "triumverate of wisdom" then by all means carry on as is
  14. lol, your head is so far up this guy's ---- that he could tell you the Holocaust didn't happen or man didn't land on the moon and you'd probably come up with some inane crap like this to support his viewpoint 🙂
  15. yeah you could be right all of the best trainers in NZ and around the world might not be as smart as you when it comes to factors like weight
  16. if weight carried is inconsequential, why do trainers sacrifice riding ability/experience for a 3kg or 4kg claim? and why do trainers talk about placing their horses to advantage in the weights? i thought if anyone would know, trainers might!?
  17. that's true but nor have I seen any data from those who assert the opposite, and I'm no statistician but I suspect your sample of 10 or 20 Slippers probably doesn't qualify and it seems there might be two different arguments going on here one is whether barrier draws have an effect on the outcome of a race (or many races) and the other is whether barrier draws affect the price more than they should
  18. R1 - 2/5 R2 - 5/7 ** R3 - 3/10 ** R4 - 7/15 R5 - 8/13 R6 - 5/10 R7 - 1/7 R8 - 1/12 R9 - 1/17 R10 - 5/13 thanks Peter
