Golden Sam and Magnifique (second the year before to Piping Lane). Swell Time won the Caulfield Cup. Some great memories surround those horses. Everybody in Palmerston North at that time knew about Glengowan and the (then) apprentice Noel Harris.

I have proved the truth of my own comment. Strike Again was the name of a horse trained by a Miss A Vissier?, Tauranga, that won first-up from a spell after injury, I believe, in the first part of the seventies. The horse was by Fair's Fair. For some reason, that piece of seemingly irrelevant information has remained in my mind. I do hope that my memory is accurate.

ngakonui grass, I think that the horse that you may be thinking of is "Not Again". I believe that the prominent owner of this horse previously raced a top-class galloper called "Terrific", who had a nightmare campaign in Australia and so, in the hope of avoiding a repeat, named his next horse as such. "Not Again" was a top-class racehorse in his own right. Please believe me, there is no need to apologise. We all make the odd mistake when recalling the long ago, and your reference to great horses of the past delights me and allows me to indulge myself in a brief reverie. Cheers.

ngakonui grass, Skint Dip finished fourth to Silver Knight, Igloo and Tails in the 1971 Melbourne Cup, I believe. All the best.

  14. LookingForValue, Is that Show Gate beating Varnamo after having broken down during the running? Please advise. Thank you.
  15. Docker, Please note that Show Gate raced before Mr O'Sullivan's time. Therefore, his lack of knowledge regarding the great mare is excusable. That is all.
