Rowe Cup Night

For something to do and as PJ,s comp was abandoned I will run a short comp at  Alexander Park tomorrow night. Some very good races .

RULES:  Same format as PJ,s weekend comp combined with the weekly one.  All 10 races in play.

Pick one horse to win or place in each race. Imaginary $1 each way

If you fail to select in two races before the end of the night ,you are out, which includes getting to the last race with 8 but missing in the last. Cruel.

              Last man standing.

No money involved but open to a donation..

             Person with highest total wins.

Please post selections on here. I will endeavour to post after each race with updates .Please replace all scratchings ,If you don't replace original selection it will count as a miss. Late scratchings will go onto TAB sub.

But should see a 3rd Auckland Cup for Self Assured as is going well .

For me he is the best horse in the country. Some may disagree.  The stats back it up. He has only missed the first 3 four times in 56 starts, can stay all day,and has a very quick mile time , do some work in a race and still have something left. He was unlucky in the Cup in Nov, got out late and made ground quickly when clear to finish 5th on a blistering final quarter. One of those Champion horses that has been all class since he started racing.

RESULTS ON HERE.

Robert  # #  # $1.90 # # # $1.20 #    $4.90                             $8.00

LB        #  $2.00,  $3.50, # , $6.10 , $4.20 # $1.20 #  #           $17

Rees    $5.60 #  1.90 # # # # $1.20 # #                                   $8.70

Craig     #  #  # # # # $23.90, $7.50 #  #                                 $31.40

Maxi     #  #  # # # $4.20 # $7.50  #  $2.60                            $14.30

Race 3  Max joining in but two misses so far, he posted on the Entain discussion. Enquiry in this so no 8 may get third if promoted, and save some bacon.  No 8 promoted so LB sneaks in, scorer stays but 3 more misses and last chance saloon for Robert, Maxi, Craig.

Race 4  Robert stays alive sneaking into 3rd. Two more on two misses, and two on four misses.

Change of tactics, very hard to pick 8 . Winner takes all so all picks still in play.

Race 5  LB on fire with the winner, and takes the lead.  Rest of us missed, with two still to open their account.

R6  LB and Max on the winner, with LB extending his lead. Craig, feel free to join in.

R7. Craig decided to join in and goes from last to first with Love N The Port.:classic_biggrin:.  Great run by our Majestic Man at a distance that doesn't suit, and phenomenal run by Muscle Mountain.

R8  The dormant volcano Craig for the first 6 races, spews forth again with Akuta, and so does Max. In fact we all scored for the first time tonite.

R9  NTD. The status quo remains as we were all on a weak effort by no 1.

CRAIG can't be beaten . LB is the closest and if he wins it won't be enough to overtake Craig.

R10  Robert with a win and Max a place . Final scores above in Green

Well done Craig 👍

reckon with such few players we should just roll on into the feature races without elimination lol.  Robert and i galloped out the back last in the first race . Not a great start lol.😂.

Hey Majestic Man might spring them a surprise in the Rowe Cup ? without Bolt and Sundee about this year ? Robert has picked him . 🏆 finger's crossed 🤞

Live in hope but he does seem to have lost some bottle without a really good run in transit. May only have another year in him, but its been a great ride.

could give them a fright on reputation alone. one of the very best . I put Majestic Man in the same League with Easton Light, Stormy Morn , Temporale, and those sort of great trotters that just give it everything everytime. even if just short of the Big Race wins the like of 'Sundee' and the new kid 'Muscle' who's muscling in on the action these days.

Is this just Craig and Max swearing at the results so far ?     #%&*#@^#% horses

mate..Max always backs #1 at the trots inside draw/best chance of a cosy trip etc...so I picked 4 x #1 to win in Rees's comp...all the ruffies that have won have been #1 ..Max had none of em...is it any wonder I leave the wobblies alone? The exception? The horse with the picket line form, couldnt be beat any way you looked at it..Muscle Mountain...$1.40 a 40% ROI easy peasy...pays for the Moet for the weekend...'cept now poor Max will be workin' double shifts babysitting and drinking water...poor Max

Yes the old 'Muscle Mountain' was as wobbly as it gets early in race losing 100m ( like he had a few too many moets or something lol) can't believe he caught up and ran 4th . sure got some ability.

As for Max , is sure to be bouncing back with a Lucky 7 at PJ's tomorrow? . Hope you can top the table cobber,  and book a place in the final. (and some irony with old mate 'Trotslover' has already booked a berth taking victory last week 😆)

cheers buddy...Max will certainly be tryin' to make the grade...have stumbled across a nice fun betting strategy lately...'Any 2' of 5 or 6 ...at decent FF odds..has got me outta jail twice the last two weekends!

I did back both but only a small bet.

70th go you good thing. Sounds fun. Great food & people.

Question, how many 40+ race car drivers who compete in Formula 1, formula 2 or formula 3?

Question, how many Harness drivers full stop are there that complete 40+?

Not looking for explanations. Just facts.

Not many race car drivers. Fernando Alonso has been around forever and is 40 years old (oldest current formula One driver)

This generation (this century) the drivers are pratically all 'Gamers' who spend vast amounts of time in simulators of the tracks/cars they are racing on/in. More than on the track (which are only available for a few days a year when set up for Grand Prix's etc. in contrast to last century when the 'Old' boys did countless laps as 'Test' drivers , getting their car 'just right'  before racing.

Of course the horsepeople are more hands on and race driving is a skill-set that is well earned . (with experience) . most of the greats starting very young in the Family business like the Purdon boys , The Dunn boys , the McCarthy Boys , the Rasmussen girls .(There's 4 of the worlds best driving families going.)

Mostly it's a young persons game (esp Aus) where the middle aged to old should just let the youngsters do their thing. I have noticed a lot of the dad's just let the kid's do it and take over when they get to licenced age . In the races, they just let the horses roll now , so not the great strength needed that was once an 'issue' hanging on to strong and pulling horses in a race. So the skinny teens do just as good as anyone else these days lol. 😉😂

Thanks Lightening. Was actually going to say 45+ then lowered age as was thinking surely theres no Formula 1 drivers aged 40+. But alas there is 1. Yea its weird really, why in Harness they have aged persons driving Horse Formula 1. Aussies are on the money.

They really keep going to a ripe old age there in NZ don't they ? I think for a young person to 'Make a career 'of harness racing , they need a fair few drives per week to make it a viable option.  (and keep their interest in the sport high ) the smallish amount of juniors there these days is part of the reason the harness racing game is retreating.

Juniors in Oz get a real go on. you've seen em winning the last 2 Interdomions and Hart, Gallagher , Callaghan get put on ahead of any senior.

Old John McCarthy still drives occasionally but his son's Luke, Andrew and Todd are in the top 100 in the world from getting a real go early. John McMullen in Brissy only about 60 years old now and was a good driver , BUT hasn't driven since was 50, or before even,  as wanted to get the kids going and interested in the game and so Pete, Danielle, Narissa and Tahleah are 4 of the Best in the state driving now.

North Island seemed to miss out on next generation ?? like Purdons (marks 2 boys are just trainers)  Herlihys (boys are overseas) Wolfenden 2 boys disappeared? and have any of the Butchers got kids coming through ? At least the South Island have some kids of the next gen.  getting the drives like some of the O'Reilly's and Thorntons and Carter and young Wilson House winning some too. and Ben Hope too of course doing super well.

you gotta stick the kids on . not old Maurice and Mango and Ricky and CJ etc.
