The first thing I notice is how even the competition has been this year.
The match-ups in the Blues/Canes match look particularly even.
With 3x players of the Canes with a higher than 50:50 win ratio, they must go in as favourites.
Only 1 player in both the Ferdies and Chiefs with a greater than 50:50 win ratio.
The way Ellerslie races these days, I bet Hesi will be the most worried until it moves over to the Aussie races.
Now don't go trying to cover any of Roland's picks Alan, we all know how that usually ends...

Ahh Geoff - a bit of the the old "claim the underdog status" tactics.   I think the resounding minor premiership win, the win over the Canes during round robin and Howie's claims earlier in the week, has the Blues firmly installed as favourites.  Canes are 2:1 ($3) underdogs  😊

Some interesting points you make - nobody in the first semi with a losing record - goes a long way toward a spot in the play-offs.

and how to beat Roland!?  Funny you should say that - it was the topic of an out of cycle Canes video conference earlier this week.  Can't give too much away but we feel we've done all we can to beat the Blues top scorer.  We did of course note that he appeared in the bottom five scorers last Saturday (yes we double checked that) - so perhaps he has peaked too soon.  Time will tell.

Should be a cracker - always is!

Come  on John. You guys are favourites and you know it. Our last win was a statitiscal anomaly.

Hesi keeps telling me what a loser I am and I'm coming around to his way of thinking.

If this was the Derby you guys would be Dragon Leap and we'd be Tie Beet An.

Hesi you have anger problems my friend. Take a deep breath and stop swearing at me.

There, that feels better doesn't it?

Coincidentally I am quaffing a glass of Roaring Meg Rose as I type this but it's purely medicinal you understand.

Good morning, folks.

Super big raceday at the local course today .... and it's gonna be a cracker !

Plus a big PJ comp semi-final clash .... another epic Auckland v Wellington : Mighty Blues v Hurricanes match ..... to see who goes through to play the Ferdies in the Grand Final next week.

When the Mighty Blues and the Hurricanes these teams met last time, in the round-robin, it was Roland getting in the decisive stride for a $4 win over his opponent that saw the Mighty Blues squeak home ! Expecting it to be equally as close today as these long-time rivals match motors - and if Roland fires up again today as he has done through much of this competition then that will place the Mighty Blues on a likely path to victory.

All my study is`done now, and I've decided to put the circle around these likely sorts :-

  • R1)              1x4
  • R2)              9x11
  • R3)              1x2
  • R4)              1x2
  • R5)              6x7
  • R6)              1x16        Best Bet New Zealand
  • R7)              1x2          Best Bet Australia
  • R8)              1x4
  • R9)              3x5
  • R10)            2x3

The very best of luck today to my Mighty Blues "teamies" :-

> Gordy                $500+ into the kitty last Saturday. Peaking nicely and gonna be awfully hard to head off today

> Pete                   Can always be relied upon to find the winners in the big clashes. Looming omninously in this comp.

> Roland               Star performer in this comp - has found several good-priced winners in round-robin - and will find a few more today. The best of good things.

> Geoff                 The 'Best Bet' King .... wins a lot more than than he loses - and sure to be right in it at the business end.

Of course wishing the Hurricanes ...... John, Virgil, Hesi, Porky,  and TC ......... much luck today - well-led by a strategic genius and all team-members with proven records of success dating back a long time. Gonna be very hard to head off today. Anyone other than the Mighty Blues and these fellas would have looked a shoe-in to make the Grand Final. But up against the Mighty Blues .... likely one step too far. 🙂

Enjoy a great day's racing everyone .... thank you for this wonderful comp, PJ .....and thank you John for being a scoring and commentating 'maestro'.

Cheers,

Howie

Morning all from Bedrock

Sending the Mustelid's best wishes to all you fine competitors (and VvD) for a great day's fun, frivolity and more than a touch of dramatic tension in the early evening as the inevitable last-race(s) scenarios unfold. Should be a couple of cracking semi-finals!
The Mustelid notes with horror only ONE ROSE among the thorns, so go well, Heather, give grocer Jack a migraine (as PJ would say!)

fwiw, Maxi is picking the HairyCanes to beat the Once-Mighty Blues and the Ferdies to defeat the Chiefs. Havent got time to do a h2h preview, sorry PJ, but I'm picking VvD, John and Porky to win their matches; Maurice, Heather and PJ to prevail for the Ferdies. No offence intended to the rest,  and many matches will be tight, I reckon.

A sensational afternoon of racing ahead with weather to suit: ENJOY THIS SPECIAL DAY.

MM

😧

Maxi's bet of the day is Ellerslie R2: #6 Dance Card.

Welcome all. Bit damp in Ferdie country this morning but was needed & looks like clearing again now.  Just hoping that Ellerslie doesn't get any rain and also that they don't have any $50+ winners for Gee to get on to.
