NPC Spring Super Comp 2024 - Round 1 - Sat August 10 - selection thread

ROUND 1 - Saturday August 10

(A word to Captains. Probably a good idea to start a team PM thread if you have not already done so to remind everyone of closing times and to post ON TIME. You need to make your changes and corrections by 11.10am. A reminder not to edit posts after posting. Corrections and scratching subs need to be in a new post)

So here we are again with arguably the most hotly contested Super Comp of the year when the great tipping minds of Race Place go head-to-head to try and propel their teams to greatness !

To check the rules please see the separate rules thread. Know that you just need to post by 10.40am giving Captains half an hour until 11.10am to fix any issues.

We start the day with a true taste of Winter with the big hurdle from Riccarton followed by a tricky Rating 75. The scorer breaks for an early lunch before we tackle the Grand National Steeple which should be quite the spectacle. A two-divvy open middle distance contest follows before we trip across to Sydney to take in an interesting 2400m go, then it is back to Riccarton for the open sprint which looks ripe for a bit of an upset.

After that we head back to Randwick to complete the card which includes the Group 2 Missile Stakes while the last two races look like real head-scratchers.

The big clash of the day might be the Battle of Bombay where we see the Auckland Blues take on the Waikato Chiefs with Captain Jack the first opponent for comp newcomer Rich who comes with a huge reputation first-up.

The Swamp Foxes and Highlanders will meet in what could be a Bannockburn replay or will the cunning Foxes outwit the Scots crew ? Some fascinating HTHs in that one, particularly MC v BC.

A revamped Kauri Kats outfit takes on the terror that is the Grand Finalists from 2023 - The Turbos - where we welcome newbie Dee who has the tough draw facing OM first-up.

Lastly perennial foes the Magpies and Ferdies clash in a match with a real Ranfurly Shield flavour about it. Can the Bay Boys take down the reigning NPC Champs from last year ? Plenty of in-form participants in that one with Moz v Richie looking very tasty.

Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent

Of course mate. Easy enough to do , we were just posting 3 picks last week so quite easy to continue that trend. good for a chuckle lol.

As far as the handicap goes, I am expecting  ''Double R' Robert will dispose of the Aussie Raider LB, just like the great horse Harold Logan did for NZ ,with kiwi legend Maurice Holmes steering,  disposed of the Aussie star Walla Walla (who once raced off a 220yard handicap) in a match race at Dunedin )Ears pricked and jogging it in lol.
