PWJ
ROUND 9 - Saturday October 5 TEMPORARY SITUATIONS VACANT (IMPORTANT): On Saturday Anita and I will be down in Sydney at Randwick cheering on Autumn Glow in the Flight Stakes (our one Spring Racing outing for the year). So, if possible I need one person from each match to score and update (or if even possible extrapolate). Please volunteer on this thread. Your help would be sincerely appreciated. Fine and a Soft 5 at Hawera, Overcast and a Good 4 at Randwick while Flemington is Showers and a Good 4. We kick off the day with a couple of Rating 65 contests under the mountain before the Egmont Cup and then the Taranaki feature followed by a very competitive R75. Then it is off to Sydney for the 3yo fillies Group One (you will hear PJ and Anita screaming for sure) and then the staying feature that is the Metropolitan. We dash down to Melbourne for an even-looking renewal of the Turnbull Stakes then back to Randwick for the Epsom with a million chances and round off the day with a dash down the Flemington straight in the Gilgai. The big match of the day is 1st vs 2nd as The Waikato Chiefs take on The Auckland Blues in a monumental Battle of Bombay. Irresistible force takes on immovable object as Magnificent Pete seeks to break down Serendipitous Porky while another two Magnificent Seven members Kingpin Roland and Wuffie King Gee look formidable opponents for Jack and Gordy respectively. Last time they met in Round 1 the Chiefs scored more dollars but still went down to the Jaffas. Only 3 places but a yawning 8 points separate the Swamp Foxes (unlucky last time out) from the in-form Kauri Kats. The Swampies triumphed last time they met in Round 2 but The Kats collected a higher aggregate. In Round 2 Jammo and Dee scored the biggest wins so Rex and Tassie will be hoping to turn the tables on them this time around. Robert will be hoping Anita is distracted by her trip to Randwick as they go to war with almost identical dollars scored and 3 wins apiece. It has been a hard slog for the Taranaki Ferdies so far, the wet Spring playing havoc with their hooves and now they have to take on a Turbos outfit who have scored twice as many points to date although the Naki crew ran out easy winners in their last encounter. The Serendipitous Maurice on his home track at Hawera will seek to see off the Unfortunate Gary who has taken his share of flack so far in the comp. Last time these sides met Blind Squirrel was Turbo MVP but still got rolled by Heather Duchess of Lepperton, so he will be out for some rodent revenge for sure. Lastly The Magpies and The Highlanders each find themselves outside the qualifying spots so like the man with the wheelbarrow, have the job all in front of them. The Otago boys are 6 points and 3 places to the good but you know the Magpies lineup is too good to stay down for long and a form reversal could be on the cards shortly. The two players who have been involved in the highest scoring matches so far in the comp - Ian and Howie - just had to draw each other in the HTHs. These veterans manage to rate both Magnificent and Unfortunate simultaneously and their HTHs so far in the comp average a for and against tally of better than $552 per match each ! Fireworks expected then on Saturday - or will it be a $92.40 vs $87.60 win for one of them ?? Despite narrowly outscoring the Highlanders on aggregate last time they met, the Magpies went down 1-4 although snaffled a couple of points with a Regular Joker. Rinse and repeat ?? Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent Please post on time. Let's have some fun and note the closing time... Good win for us last time out, and no reason we can't go back-to-back. Good luck to you too my rival for Saturday, Ian. Ian goes way back in this comp to around the time I started too . . . early '60s I think ! 😊 Ian would be one of the shrewdest selectors going around, so I'm gonna have to bring my 'A' game for sure. Thanks for this fine comp, PJ, and I'm sorry to read that Autumn Glow won't be going around for you. I hope you have a great day anyway. Craig, please can you slot in with any scratching replacements required for me after 7am tomorrow, as I'll be out from that time onwards with my sports coaching. Lightning Blue, thanks very much for volunteering to score our match tomorrow. You're a star.
