PWJ Posted November 2 Posted November 2 ROUND 14 - Tuesday November 5 Just a note that the comp continues for the Semi-Finals and Finals of both the NPC Spring Super Comp and NPC Presidents Comp, ending on Sat Nov 16. Captains - make sure your team mates know this. Currently Cloudy and a Good 4 at Ellerslie and Fine and a Good 4 at Flemington. The last round of the Round-Robin is upon us with a number of fates to be decided. To test your tipping skills we start the final day with a 2yo Group scamper down the Flemington straight with minimal disclosed form. Then we cart off to Ellerslie for a couple of restricted benchmarks and a maiden thrown in for good measure. Then we are back in Melbourne for a couple of stayers features prior to the NZ WFA feature at Ellerslie leading up to The Cup. The penultimate race is a restricted sprint back at Ellerslie before the all-important final contest: a capacity sprint for the older girls at Flemington where class Kiwi mare Quintessa takes on a talented bunch. So we have 7 teams chasing 4 Finals berths for the NPC Spring Championship. As you can see from the Table below, no team has guaranteed a Finals spot although The Chiefs and Blues would be heavily favoured to be there. The match between the 4th-placed Kauri Kats (armed with a Triple Joker) and the 6th-placed Highlanders draws the most attention. If the Kats have a successful Triple Joker play then the rest will likely be fighting over one remaining spot. If the Kats fail or even worse, fail and suffer a one point deduction then the door is wide open for The Turbos, Highlanders and Swamp Foxes with the Manawatu and Otago lads each playing a Regular Joker. The Highlanders scored a narrow win over The Kauri Kats in Round 4 but The Kats had a higher aggregate and a team profit so these sides look closely matched with less than $120 in aggregate separating them. Queen Kat Dee will be hoping to turn the tables on Lightning Blue to whom she suffered defeat in their previous encounter while the players with the most wins in each team - Sharne and Midnight Caller - meet in a HTH. Despite being 3 points ahead The Turbos have less than $130 aggregate advantage over their opponents, the Swamp Foxes who went down 1-4 to the Manawatu Boys last time despite having the audacity to play a Joker. The Magnificent Ziggy will be hoping for the same success he enjoyed in Round 5 defeating Tassie Tiger. These two are the players on each team with the most HTH wins so expect a high-scoring match in that one. The Unfortunate Gary goes head-on with the Magnificent Black Caviar in another feature individual clash. The Turbos, unlike the Swampies, have a Joker to play but need to win to make it really effective while the Swampies are in MUST-WIN-BIG territory and hope some other matches go in their favour. The Waikato Chiefs are on pole position but are not mathematically safe for The Finals and could have done with weaker opposition than the 3rd-placed Hawkes Bay Magpies who could be looking nervously over their shoulders if they fall behind in this one in which the Chiefs had the temerity to triumph in Round 3 with a pathetic aggregate of just $632 ! The Serendipitous Steve P faces the Magnificent Ian in a fascinating encounter while the encounter between Porky and Jase with almost identical form profiles looks too close to call. The 4 teams immediately below the 2nd-placed Blues have the capacity to outscore them on Cup day so have they got a free hit against the woeful Ferdies ? Perhaps not, remembering the Naki crew took down the Auks 4-1 in Round 4 ! The Ferdies may already be eyeing the Presidents Trophy but could play a significant role in who gets to make next Saturdays Finals. The top guns from each side - Roland and Maurice - repeat their earlier clash where Maurice prevailed by just under $70. Good luck everyone ! Remember you must have at least 6 different picks (of 20) for those who post after their opponent Please post on time. Let's have some fun and note the closing time... Close off at 11.45am (NZ time) Races are: 1. Flemington R1 - 12.45pm - Darley Maribyrnong Plate (Gr3) - $200k, 1000m, 2yos SWs 2. Ellerslie R3 - 1.30pm - Stella Artois 1100 - $75k, 1100m, R65 BM 3. Flemington R9 - 6.35pm - The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stks (Gr3) - $200k, 1400m, mares SW+Ps TABLE AFTER ROUND 13 Amazingly even The Chiefs are not technically safe to make the Finals. Maximum points wins by the Blues, Turbos and Highlanders and the Magpies (with a better aggregate) could relegate The Chiefs to 5th ! So it is 7 teams fighting over 4 slots. Howard Atkinson Posted November 3 Posted November 3 R1) 1-2 R2) 6-8 Best Bet NZ R3) 10-12 R4) 10-11 R5) 10-15 R6) 5-9 R7) 3-4 R8) 1-14 R9) 4-8 R10) 5-10 Best Bet Aus A tough mob in this comp . . . $4144 scored against me (only Rex has been more unfortunate) . . . so I'm proceeding on the basis that my opponent this week, Anita, will set me at least $320 to have to head off. Hoping I'm up to the task . . . certainly my Highlanders team-mates hope so with it being a Joker play for us as we swing the doors open to enter the Last Chance Saloon. We're currently outside the Top 4, and are needing to find a length or two. Fortunately for us we've got some big-hitters at our disposal. Midnight Caller wins a lot more than he loses . . . Rob has really hit his straps the past 2 to 3 weeks . . . Lightning Blue is never far from a winner or seven . . . and Captain Craig excels at Ellerslie and Flemington. For sure the Kauri Kats are gonna have to go some to keep up, he says, giving his Joe Marler-like "fire-up" to the opposition ! 😊 Good luck, Anita. Let's do this, fellow Highlanders. We're destined to shine this week on the biggest stage ! Many thanks for another great comp, PJ. 👏👏 3 Quote
VC! Posted November 3 Posted November 3 I wouldn't be surprised if they scratched Kinesiology from race 5 at Flemington and ran him on Saturday in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, a qualifying race for the 25 Melbourne Cup group3, I think they did that with Soulcombe a couple of years ago just saying!!!
