Five To Win starting Wednesday Dec 11 - yes it is BACK !

The most frustrating, maddening comp ever conceived returns after a long absence ! Just select one horse per race to run a dividend-bearing placing. Sounds like a pretty easy gig - just select 5 horses to run a place in each of the 5 nominated races ! It is NOT, believe me, and those who have played before will grudgingly testify !

Anyone can join in

Starting on Wednesday December 11. Named FIVE TO WIN, this is an individual comp which will run for one month until Jan 12, 2025. It will be run on a midweek meeting (Tues, Wed or Thu) with only NZ meetings. It is very simple:

1. For each day of competition I will choose 5 consecutive races at a meeting.

2. You will be required to make a selection of your choice in each of the 5 races, no more, no less. All selections must be made before the start of the first race on the schedule.

3. Your first selection of the day will carry an imaginary $10/place investment. If successful, the return from this bet will carry over (the full dollar amount) to your second selection and so on. The aim is to get all 5 place selections in the money. If any miss, your only return from the day will be your loose change (cents not re-invested).

4. If you manage to get all 5 selections placed then your daily total will be banked towards your overall score (as will your cents if you miss). The player with the most $$ at the close of the final meeting of the comp will be the winner.

5. Scratching Rule. You may replace scratchings up until 30 mins before the first race on the schedule at the stipulated meeting. Replace in a new post. Do not edit your original selections. If you don't replace a scratching then your entry will be invalid for that meeting. If you suffer a late scratching then your investment will go on the NZ TAB fave.

Peter, because I almost never do comps nor even read the threads, you'll probably think this is a dumb question. However, I do sometimes read the Thursday trivia even though I seldom have a clue about the answers and I spotted this. Might even give it a go. My stupid question though is, do you base this on closing tote, FOB SP or FO specified at entry? Presumably, whatever the answer to that, it is NZ TAB prices?

Yes, the NZ TAB/SuperTAB tote prices. No fixed odds. Hope you give it a go.

It is like climbing Everest to make it to a successful collect on the 5th race 😺
