Round 4 - Saturday Feb 13

Race 10 - Randwick R8

1st - 6 Every Rose W-$26.40

2nd - 8 Never Talk Q-$175.50

Scr: 15,16

1 STEELERS (3rd)

$1223.60

0 points

4 TURBOS (4th)

$1584.60

4 points

Away Game and Thermosphere only battled in the mud so The Turbos held on for an important win taking down the harness lads. No one tipped the Choisir roughie in the last. Captain Squirrel was Man of the Match by $1 from Steelers MVP (and their only individual winner) Von Smallhausen.

387.00 Craig

410.00 Blind Squirrel

40.00 Rees

47.00 Ziggy

185.00 Richie

405.00 Ray

409.00 Von Smallhausen

329.60 Steve P

202.60 Baby

393.00 Gary

5 CHIEFS (7th)

$1429.00

5 points

0 CRUSADERS (1st)

$753.20

0 points

The Chiefs had it wrapped up before the last - where everyone missed - scoring a big win over the table leaders. Ian, with 7 winners, was an impressive Man of the Match, while Robert was MVP for the Canterbury crew. The Chiefs took all 5 points available for their 5-zip win and team profit.

264.00 Punter Pete

146.60 Wrinkles

335.00 Jack

308.60 Robert

155.00 Gee

131.00 Tom

196.00 Stevie N

82.00 Rob

479.00 Ian

87.00 Rex

2 KAURI KATS (6th)

$1145.20

0 points

3 HURRICANES (2nd)

$1962.60

3 points

The Kats all missed in the last - in fact they landed just one winner after race 7 - and the miracle came off for the Hurricanes as Virgil bagged a mighty quinella, netting over $600, to down Pam and win it for the Wellington lads ! John also labelled the Newnham winner in the last. Virgil was not only Man of the Match but Player of the Day while old tom Graeme was MVP for the Kats. The 'Canes took a bonus point for a team profit achieved in the last also.

221.00 Jen

139.00 Porky

40.00 Max

373.00 John

202.00 Pam

786.00 Virgil

294.00 Sharne

307.00 The Crucible

388.20 Graeme

357.60 Hesi

0 FERDIES (5th)

$630.60

0 points

5 BLUES (8th)

$1840.60

5 points

Everyone missed in the last and the Ferdies were unable to deny The Blues their 5-zip margin so the Auks took all 5 points on offer for the team profit and margin score. Pete bagged 6 winners to secure Man of the Match honours while Zac was MVP for a fairly abject performance from all but Zac and Moz. Too good today Blues boys !

35.00 Maria

568.00 Pete

259.00 Zac

488.00 Gordy

233.60 Maurice

247.00 Roland

54.00 PJ

183.00 Geoff

49.00 Heather

354.60 Howie

TABLE AFTER ROUND 4

1st 9 points HURRICANES* $5078.80

2nd 8 points TURBOS $4823.60

3rd 8 points CHIEFS $4354.20

4th 8 points BLUES $4200.60

5th 6 points CRUSADERS $4008.80

6th 5 points STEELERS $4354.40

7th 4 point KAURI KATS $3860.20

8th 4 points FERDIES $3430.00

The Hurricanes big last gasp win takes them to the top of the table with the Turbos moving up two places to 2nd after beating the Steelers who lost 3 spots. The Chiefs were the day's big movers gaining 4 places and sending the former leaders - the Crusaders - down 4 slots to 5th. The other big movers were The Blues who climbed out of the cellar and scaled the heights of the top half of the table, now only one point behind the leader. The Kauri Kats lost a place in defeat while the sad Ferdies slipped 3 places into the cellar. Seven Jokers to be played in the remaining three rounds so it's gonna be pretty crazy.

Tis the day after the day before, the day the Big Bad Wind blew the Kats away in the last. A classic finale. Congrats to the Canes on a mighty comeback win.

But, hey THATS THE WAYTO DO IT -a big bold killer blow from a cupla wuffies! Bang! Bang!

Memorable stuff, esp after the NZ leg was full of $1.40 winners - and truth to tell, any wuffie, esp a $26-1 shot, tipped by SNM and/or Virgil has to be taken seriously. (Thanks for the tip, guys, the TAB had to cough up!  Mrs W's Bags 'n' Shoes 'n' Other Essentials fund is overflowing.)

We're still in this race, Kitty Kats, and starting to fire. Will need a big win when playing our Joker.

I sense them all saying "we will play our Joker against the UNLUCKIEST Team the Kats"

☠️☠️ Bring it on

We'll keep 'em guessing as to which of the three we'll swoop on with our JOKER PLAY, eh, Foxy One. (Current Mustelidian thinking is to wait til Rd 7 when we know how many pts are needed for a gob-smackin' last-stride victory. But is Maxi bluffing??)

We only need to get it right on that One Fine Day ...cf (for example) dem Hurricanes who have shot their Jokerish bolt for stuff-all points. Their time atop the table may be short-lived.

The cream always rises Maxi, the aggregates will tell you that, it will be very hard to knock the Canes off their perch now, joker or no joker.

You also have to remember basic maths when assessing the possibilities

0 points x 2, always equals zero:classic_biggrin:

you clearly don't listen to SNM and the Gang of One or Two who will tell you aggregates don't matter. And the fact is, you poor Canes blew your Rd 1 Joker play (net 2pts), while the rest of us sit and wait with double points for the taking. Just gotta get it right on the night, the right play of the day ... and with so many team lurking just below dem Canes on the table, your team's chances of winning the Comp are not great. prob only marginally better than the Kats.

Very true Hesi.

What will be worrying is the number of active jokers still in hand.  If none get played until the last round then we'll end up with 3 double joker matches which means that at least one team in each match will score 4-10 points. (Not that I'll be encouraging Captain Squirrel to save our joker against you guys in the last).

But all you can do is keep winning and who knows, by then it may not even matter.

cheers

I reckon we will see at least one Joker played this week, Ray

My logic:

- the Ferdies have won 2 of 4 matches in this comp while the Kats have only won once.
- the Ferdies typically finish in the top half of these comps - class is permanent.
- in the last edition of the National Championship the Ferdies were runaway winners with 24 points while the "enigmatic and scary" Kats scored 2 points.

But just my opinion, and a decision for Blind Squirrel and the Turbos to make.  I hope you're right and they save their Joker for the Ferdies or us.

ps. you won't play your Joker against the Turbos!

Nice try, but different team composition, so last year (and prior) performance(s) irrelevant. We all know the Turbos decide their own Joker play, so that comment hardly adds to the sum of all knowledge.

ps: reckon the Canes are feelin' nervy out holdin' on to the Comp lead.

suggestion: try some more of them winning wuffies like last Saturday - my TAB balance (and Mrs W) both very very grateful for your assistance

Have a good night

Just sharing my opinion.  Different team composition is debatable - 4 out of 5 team members the same for both sides from that last (24 vs 2) National comp.

I love the irony in your "hardly adds to the sum of all knowledge" remark.  Imagine if you applied that filter to your own posts - this forum would resemble a ghost town 😊

and yes I am fully aware of the fact that we will struggle to win this comp with the likelihood that at least one of the 7 Joker plays will strike gold.

You appear to be saying that this forum has hardly any posters other than the poor Mustelid!
I daresay that was not your intention, SNM, as your rusty blade was doubtless aiming only at Max, as usual.
But better to have that trusty dusty rusty blade of yours than no blade at all.

So feel free to apologise to all the other fine Members, whose many posts DO add to the sum of all knowledge.

The poor Mustelid will never be stony broke as long as he puts a bob each way on your wuffies, SNM ...as for the gonads reference, I have had few complaints from Mrs W over the years ..reckons she's always had trouble with her eyes which is why she hooked up with Max to the max. LOL

Sleep well, old son.
