As an aside I read on racing.com that Linda Meech got fined and or suspended for her ride on Jamaican Rain for excessive whip use. Whilst it hits the jockey in the pocket......when it's such a close finish the owners,trainers and punters of any of the other 3 must feel a little peeved. There's a good argument for demotion of a horse in those circumstances. The argument against it is that a demotion would punish other parties not responsible for the illegal action - i.e. owners, trainer, breeder. I think that would be able to be challenged in a court of law. The argument against THAT is the same thing happens in a disqualification if a jockey weighs in light.
