Maximus
Hugh Bowman aboard Happy Clapper in the Winx Stakes..The legendary combo must've beaten HC at least 5 times in Group1s!
Hesi
That's a pretty hot field for the old fella to be lining up in
Maximus
But is anything good enough to beat him? I think Verry Elleegant might be, she should run verry welll fresh as long as she drops the bit early ..i looked up her damside pedigree last night ...just 5 generations back is Eight Carat! Hesi
Lots of staying and wet track influence in that pedigree, yet has such a great acceleration(turn of foot)...........brackets and ellipses
Maximus
not to mention sheer galloping ability
mardigras
11 minutes ago, Maximus said: not to mention sheer galloping ability What will they target with her? Most heavily backed in the Cox Plate of the big events. I would have thought a Caulfield Cup would suit her, that's if she runs out a strong 2400m. Won the Oaks, but the CC would likely be a different story.
Maximus
If Waller has got her to truly relax, the sky's the limit...I wonder though if she's as good left-handed as right handed. Seemed to have trouble settling in Vic last season, unless I'm getting mixed up. May havr had more to do with immaturity than what leg to lead with! mardigras
She will probably have her work cut out winning a Melbourne Cup - she is however, the lowest priced runner not from the NH in the betfair market. To win that, I'd say she would have to have come back a lot better than last season. Which is always a big question mark with quality 3yo fillies. Time will tell. Hesi
Didn't they think about it, albeit briefly
mardigras
They may have, although I don't believe she ever got even a nomination.
Maximus
I think they'd be mad to risk her in a Melbourne Cup at 4yo. Maybe at 5....interested too to see how Youngstar comes up this season...didnt rua bad race in Melbourne Cup last year (6th)and with that extra year may be a surprise package in MC. mardigras
Not a suitable race for Verry Elleegant, but I would have expected better. What about others?
Hesi
Best form has been on heavy and soft tracks All previous starts in Aus have been against her own age group. First start against the serious G1 horses. Perhaps she is not as good as people have judged

Maximus
James McDonald (Verry Elleegant): “She’s returned okay. She’s just a bit more dour and I had a few concerns about that regarding today’s race." pity James didnt let me know this info prior to including VE in my SuperComp picks!! Hesi
This is reminiscent of another very well performed NZ mare Know which one I am talking about
Maximus
there's a few ...if its reasonably recent the one that comes to mind is Rising Romance...won the ATC Oaks and wasn't sharp enough to beat the older horses in spring sprints, came into her own over a longer trip and nearly stole a Caulfield Cup. Verry Elleegant was less than 4L from them yesterday, not disgraced. Edited August 25, 2019 by Maximus
Hesi
Was thinking Bonneval but maybe not She won a couple of G1's in Aus really well but then went off the boil and never came back
Turny
Hope I am very wrong but VE has me worried, just like Melody Belle - I think VE as a Zed needs wet feet and spring is against here - MB the next 2 runs will tell us - Zed autumn best MB I just don't know hope she ain't burnt out

Never raced again - injured, I think after trialling in NZ the following spring.
