Pleased you didn't say Sav Blanc! Usually drinking some from SA (Barossa area), don't have any particular ones - just see what I can get and go from there. Used to collect and cellar the stuff, but just too damn much of a pain (and you need to have a fair bit to not end up just drinking it all 🙂 ) And managed to have the odd high grade Penfolds as well. Good stuff but whether worth the price, not sure.
Hesi
Probably better we stick to topics other than Politics. I used to invest in wine, starting back in 2002, buying top end Bordeaux en primeur. Back then you could buy Chateau Lafitte 2003, which was a top vintage for $5,000 a case, but then as the legendary 2005 vintage became available, the Chinese became interested and prices jumped to $15,000 per case Never did taste any of it, sold it all for a huge profit, as the fun of finding a wine that you could buy for $300/bottle and sell in 3 years for $1,000 had gone. Sav Blanc a big no no for me, you can only take so much cassis and black currant. I found more enjoyment in drinking a mid range French burgundy, than taking my luck on the over priced NZ pinot noirs
pete
I can't stand Sav Blanc. Just not to my taste. In the whites I really like a good Viognier or Gewurtztraminer. Hawke's Bay Syrah is great and do enjoy a good Merlot. Currently (not at this moment) drinking a nice 2017 Church Road McDonald Series Merlot which goes down a treat. barryb
Yes I find Sav Blanc smells like lawn clippings & often tastes no better regardless of the price. I am a huge fan of Oak Chardonnay, love the stuff. Rabbit Ranch & Fickle Mistress Pinot Noir are both very tasty for $20 wines.

To introduce the science, that is 3-Hexanal you can smell, found in lawn clippings and sav blancs

Was in Bordeaux / St Emilion region for little back in the early 90s. Great wines and gee, travelling around the wineries, some were very generous. One experience my wife Michelle and I had, was we ended up at a place around lunch time where the owner was there but didn't speak English and we don't speak French. But he offered wine and we drank it (we were travelling by car! - bit of a no no). He pulled out the one wine he made - with 6 different vintages. Poured 3/4 proper pours into 6 different glasses each. And we tasted. He managed to communicate that he had a daughter that spoke English who would be back later that day in the early evening - we could pop back! So we popped back, and he poured more of the wines. And when we finished, he gave us two bottles that were half full to enjoy them with dinner. No charge for anything. We then bought a dozen from him and shipped them back to NZ - probably all down to the experience and enjoyment of the time. But no, never bought any wines at those prices Hesi. Penfolds and Henschke would be the highest prices paid. Was never an investor - more an investor to drink it.
Dancing Show
Agree Fickle Mistress is very good. The Shingle Peak Reserve Pinot Noir is also a decent drop as is the Little Giant Barossa Shiraz - which is also in a cute bottle with an even cuter wombat on the label 🙂 If you are partial to Sav Blancs then the Seifried vineyard in Nelson produces a very good one at a reasonable price as does Russian Jack, Marlborough, and The Sisters, Marlborough (their Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris is also a good drop). Hesi
Great story, although nowadays that wine investment has become so fashionable, the chateaus are not as generous. You can't get into most The good thing about wine investment, is that any gains are tax free, because it is regarded as a consumables
