Does also have the look of Sundon's Gift... they look alike 🙂

It is Sundon. I thought it was a good test to see if it could be picked from just the front portion but then I realized one could click on the picture and you see horse and driver.

Check these out these facts & stats. A look into the past 5 Cups

2016 Tiger Tara is 1st to get out. Driver G O’Reilly reins the horse along to try to hold the lead. But Smolda, T Williams keeps challenging until hits lead once around 1st Cnr. Within 1/2 a lap later has handed to stablemate Lazarus M Purdon. Race over. Lazarus wins. All Stars are lead, trail. Leader wins race.

2017 Piccadilly Princess J Cox along with stablemate Lazarus are 1st out. Lazarus has too much speed for PP. Lazarus heads straight on by. Lazarus wins. All Stars are again lead, trail. Leader wins race.

2018 Star Galleria A Herlihy, is out 1st. Followed by The Fixer N Rasmussen. Soon after The Fixer is reined up to peel from trial to take lead from Star G. Soon after that stablemate Dream About Me, T Williams heads onto lead. The Fixer wins. All Stars are yet AGAIN lead, trail. Trial horse wins.

2019 Classie Brigade R Dunn & The Fixer N Rasmussen out 1st together. Classic Brigade has early lead but Cruz Bromac, B Orange who is also out well comes looking for lead. Classie B hands up to Cruz Bromac. Soon after the horse 3 back on rail The Fixer is pulled out & goes up to take lead off stablemate Cruz Bromac. Soon after Spankem M Purdon moves up to take lead off stablemate. This time 3 All Star stablemates are not only lead, trial but also, 3 back. Cruz Bromac wins. 3 back fence wins.

2020 Outside runners get an advantage at highly disputed start. 1st out are stablemates Ashley Locaz T Williams & Self Assured M Purdon who take up lead & trial. Self Assured pulls out of trial to take lead off stablemate A Locaz. Stablemate Spankem, N Rasmussen who drew 15 is 4th last early of the 15 horse field. With stablemate Self Assured in lead & stablemate Ashley Locaz in trial, Spankem is set alight around field to take the lead. All Stars are AGAIN lead, trial, 3 back. Self Assured wins. Trial horse wins.

Karrots had only seen NZ Cup since 2018. Took a peak last nite at these replays. How exacerbating!

2021 While no official stablemates - Self Assured & South Coast Arden are currently stabled together & will be driven by M Purdon & N Ras respectively & both have All Star owners. These are currently the 2 favourites.

My suggestion would be for any of “OTHERS” IF you want a chance to WIN & are not just there to collect the $15k starters fee. DO NOT HAND UP LEAD to either of these 2 horses. Fine to hand up to another “OTHER” horse, that is capable of holding lead & also won’t hand up again. Also beware of any runners that have stablemates in race.

BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE HAND UP TO SELF ASSURE or SOUTH COAST ARDEN. And for goodness sake, get your horse out quick at the start (easier said than done yes I know lol)

Haha Lightening loves stable driving, Karrots doesn’t so maybe we play game, Lightening on “Team Stable Driving” & Karrots on “Others Team”. We have fun friendly banter with it peeps. Makes it more entertaining.

All 5 winners have come from the positions of lead, trail or 3 back fence. Said it before, Ill be on the horse in trail. Still have to figure out whom that maybe lol. If I could get a 2nd selection Ill take 2nd selection as horse in lead hehe.

Over the past 7 Cups, 6 have been from All Stars stable, same owners, drivers & trainers. Therefore for that reason & that reason alone, Id like to see different owners/trainers/driver win.

GO TEAM OTHERS - LETS TRY TO MAKE 2021 NZ CUP A RACE!!!!!

With Dunn having possibly 4 runners (with varying standing start manners) the barrier draws will be crucial for  allowing them to possibly control the race.

Self Assured or SCA have to be parked because if either lead the race is just about over.

Agree re race OVER IF either Self Assured or South Coast Arden get to lead.

Yes have to park them, as the will at some stage in race if they have not made lead early, will mid race move to seek the parked spot. Now if they come around together. That would put 1 of them in the 1/1 which that horse would one would think be a BIG threat.

If they are still too good and win from parked & 1/1 then so be it. But at least make a race of it. Don’t let the race be over within the 1st 400 metres!

Preference would be don’t let a horse e.g. Dance Time lead. Need a horse that over that distance can get the “OTHERS” on rail line to passing lane. Certain ones might putt out & stuff it for rail line then again same result.

Wonder if there is a way to get a horse good at stand start manners. Like a trick.

Here is an example of a animal trick used as a lil girl for pet day.

Used to always win the Leading hehe. But not the CALLING. Pet lamb has to come to you when called. 1st year terrible & pet lamb ran away out of ring. Sadden & nearly in tears, young Karrots asks winner. “How did you do this”? Why your lamb come running up to you? Answer “at feed time, hold bottle behind back & stand away from lamb, call lamb & lamb will come running - then feed lamb with bottle from behind back. Do same thing in ring come pet day - lamb will think bottle is behind your back”.

“Got it”. Karrots says. “Thanks”!

Next year, after finishing 1st in leading. Pet lamb & Karrots enter ring for calling comp.

A nervous Karrots places hands behind back, as an attendant holds pet lamb back. A few seconds later attendant lets go. Karrots starts to call “Kate, Kate, here Kate”. Kate comes dashing over. It worked! Winner & overall champ ribbons for Africa!

Moral of story, reckon there has to be some sort of trick to get better stand start manners, not sure what it is tho.

No Pet(e) Lamb this year as starter.

The reason the Allstars horses are usually handy early is the way they are trained. To work twice on a race. They used to do a lot of interval training and I imagine they still do, and their top horses can burn early then know how to relax and can go again late. That is why they always get handy, they do things most horses cant

Interesting. They certainly are TOP trainers & seem to have an eye for it, like no other & combined makes them that much more stronger. Was a lil surprised that Purdon challenged N Ras last nite at the finish. Which shows to me come Cup Day, they may not TEAM drive after all.

@Happy Sunrise recall early on in this thread or on another thread you mentioned they will be made to stand this year.

** Note - last nite, Self Assured did NOT stand. AGAIN Purdon had him walking forward. Watch the replay. Most of the others were standing or trying to stand.

If I was the starter I would be keeping a CLOSE EYE on Self Assured & Purdon come CUP DAY.

With so many horses in field, easy to take eye of 1 or 2. Which is when they can get a sneaky advantage.

If the Northern horses yet to arrive don't front up then the Cup is over. SA and SCA are seemingly too good.

The Canterbury pacers (outside the All Stars) are just not up to it. Henry Hubert burst his bubble last night after that good start.

Not sure U May Cullect needed to be driven like that first up. He couldn't win the Cup but might add flavour to it if he got in.

Here's an article from Lincoln Farms site. Say Copy T will stay in Auks for next Fridays Holmes DG. Based on it looks like he is going to miss the Ashburton Flying Stakes a few days later Monday. To instead race in the Kaikoura Cup based on the fact that it will be held this year at Addington, not Kaikoura. Think that is final day of our selections comp too. So Kaikoura Cup looks to the the 1st race where North meet South. So be could be an interesting watch. (Article also stated at time of print that he would go for a lite run around at workouts meaning this weekend, but didn't see his name down).

https://www.lincolnfarms.co.nz/stories/copy-that-clinical-and-well-see-him-again-at-auckland-before-he-goes-south-for-the-cup/

If I had to do a rank your Top 5 right now be:

1st - Self Assured

2nd= Copy That & South Coast Arden

4rd Bad to the Bone

5th Pembroke Playboy

Gone amiss again and now retired

Hi Addington & welcome Im a newbie too here 👋😃

That was sad re U May Cullect. He had that speed & stamina too.

On another note below is another article about Cup no BIG crowd announcement.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/racing-new-zealand-cup-week-cops-major-covid-blow/6SCEMQ6WFIE2MOELRRJESLOUWA/

Within article was this quote.

"The one silver lining to the Cup week crowd reductions for both clubs is if Auckland remains in lockdown during Cup week the turnover on the race meetings will be through the roof".

"So much of the country's betting turnover comes out of Auckland and Saturdays Hastings and Ashburton thoroughbred meetings boasted enormous turnovers as people in northern regions have few other live entertainment options, matching digital turnover trends worldwide during lockdowns".

Peeps love to run down Aucklanders, BUT according to this article y'all need us 😉

Thanks for the welcome.

Given its Harness's biggest day turnover wise only time will tell what happens this year. One thing is for sure, the catering income which is huge for NMTC must surely take a big hit.

Yes, for sure.

And hospo industries all around are taking massive hits. Very sad for them & stressful times.

Was just thinking could be a opportunity to ramp up marketing to those in North Island particularly Auckland.

Not sure how many peeps actually know about Harness NZ Cup Day & Dominion, when its on etc, outside of Harness industry itself in Auks.

Remember last year approx 4-6 weeks prior CUP day heard on car radio in Auks an NZ Cup promotion, a guessing game. Guess right & win.

Q - Which horse name is NOT a horse 3 to select from?

1. Spankem  2. AGs White Socks  3. Random name

A - They guessed WRONG from memory think they guessed AGS White Socks was NOT name lol. It was funny to listen to.

Anyway with a lot of peeps at home, not working or working from home level 3. Could be a GREAT opportunity to somehow reach them to flick on Sky or go to HRNZ website & click on the TAB watch channel & have a fun bet on Cup. Mind you then they would have to se up TAB account & peeps might be reluctant to do that outside of the industry. Too much effort lol.

Anyway yes be interesting to see how things pan out.

Hoping for the best with the current circumstances.

Yip it's made it too my neck of the woods. They are saying that it is a low risk to others, but still a few people around here are waiting for them to publish any places of interest.

It shouldn't make any difference to Cup Week but with this government's flip flopping anything could happen.

Auckland races with 100s of cases each day so Cup Day will proceed in some shape or form regardless, even at Level 3. I couldn't care less whether the 'elite' 1000 odd in their bubbles get to go.

unbelievably this poorly organised gummit has not already implemented a system to ensure only people with negative recent Covid tests are able to cross that ditch.

Quite right re level 3 racing.

So there are cases in Northland, now South Island & the person flew from Rotorua after getting it from Waikato which means potentially in Bay of Plenty too now.

Yes 100 + cases per day now with 61 unlinked today.

Hmm no chance of the WHOLE country going back to level 4 right … ? Its getting hard to keep up, esp the locations of interest. Oh dear Mardy not good.

Im enjoying being able to get my Fried Chicken & Rice albeit at level 3.

Anyway it is what it is. Lets see what happens.
