* Speeding Spur in NZ was off to a slow start serving only 15 in 2021. Hopefully for him he serves a few more 2022.

* Bettors Delight we already know about this guy. Simply the BEST in NZ. So here is something perhaps many don’t know. Bettors soon to be 2 y-o crop born 2019 will be his smallest with only 107 live foals in a whooping 14 years! Within this time the majority of time he has had over 200 live foals. His highest being 261.

1. Nicolas Cage - Has been a demolition job at workouts. Still needs to qualify BUT has been streaking them in non-winners workouts running fast workout times. Appears to be a bit wayward manners but looks to be coming right now. Chatter about him has started.

3. @Double R Q & A is over in the Q & A section Harness. Check it out. Has a NZ CUP theme to it.

4. Team North verse Team South kicks off for the NZ CUP tomorrow, who will take the glory? Fun TEAMS are Karrots, Globe, Double R verse Happy, Addington, Richie. Friendly banter allowed. Brief bragging rights to the victor. 

5. Whether you want to be involved or not the NZ CUP day punters club has been opened. Your return will be based on their return. Eg if they double money, you do too.

6. Classie B (the peoples horse) deserves a Group 1 after many G1 placings. Can tomorrow be the day for him to finally get a G1?

7. Copy That - Hopefully he gets a fair start this time based on last year. 

8. Will SA win 2 Cups on the trot? Formline is faultless. Top horse. Looking at his last 14 starts - 10 times he lead, trailed or 1/1 which majority he won. 4 times parked - beaten x3 parked. By (Copy That 2400m - Spankem 3000m - Pembroke Playboy 1980m) He got up once parked by being to good & rolling over top of PP in 1980m)

2. 2 y-o Nicolas Cage qualified Friday. Won by 14 1/4 lengths in sleek MR2-00.8 over 2200m at Cambridge.

3. Always B Miki gets 1st G1 win Franco Indie $35,000k yearling sale purchase.

4. Copy That trainer Green gets 1st NZ Cup win. Woodlands get their 1st breed NZ Cup winner. North take Cup in as many years. A weanling sale cheap purchase can win the Cup. Great 1st Cup Day start for Starter R Donnelly.

5. Record set by South Coast Arden in FFA

6. Sundees Son sets a record in Dominion.

We move on to the Interdoms - haha love it. What's this rubbish Im reading in an article out today that some peeps been saying he's out of form. Considering it was only a week ago watched him get 3rd behind late model Ferraris. Some peeps have very short memories.

As the yearling sales catalogue is scheduled to be released end of Nov meaning most likely end of next week. Thought Id take a look at some past yearling sales.

Of 145 Lots sold at 2019 Karaka Auckland Yearling sales took a look at these horses & how they are doing in comparison to the price they were purchased for. They are currently 3 y-o soon to be 4. Old racing calendar would have them as 4y-o now. Of these 145 Lots I took the 1st halve up to Lot 72. Where numbers are missing is where a lot was passed In e.g. numbering goes from 1 to 3. Have only included their NZ starts if it says exported. 

Of all these lots only 6 have earned more than their purchase price including GST. 

Have not included on breaking in, gelding, shoeing, training, vets, food, agistment, rugs or any other fees. Just the purchase price with GST.

Might as well share this too for anyone that's interested in recent turnover & who hasn’t seen it. Saw it today on Harnessed Facebook page. They state its

“Turnover since the start of October, listed from highest to lowest based on turnover per race. Colour-coded for the three regions”.

WOW !! that is astounding Karrots.!!! It's a sad reflection on 'Returning a profit for your investment' when you see that list.

About 30 race winners there on list too, but just LA ROSA ($100k yearling) was the only significant Winner (winning $200k in stakes to date)

Just want to chip in,  that another $100k yearling on your list KYVALLEY HOTSPUR has won that much to pay for himself in Victoria (winning the Group 1 Vic Trotters Derby recently) with 6 wins from 10 starts this year. Go trotters !!!

Yes it is. Actually did it by chance kind of as went to look to see if Yearlings Sale catalogue was out but it wasn't & said end of month. So took a peek back & started to do the comparison. If get time & can be motivated will do the rest of Auckland sale, so that it is 100% accurate oppose just 50% done.

He is good at selections too btw Harness peeps. He won 2 of my comps. @Gospel Of Judas we have last round of a competition. This weekend, most of us bar 3 I think are on $0 & the leader is only on say $700 ish maybe. So you might want to post selections too when the time comes, to join in. $100 up for grabs. Mike put it up. You are familiar too with Mike. A few of us are here now too 😃

Don't think so from what I recall reading about him on the Lincoln Farms site is he has won a couple or maybe 3 there now. So maybe guesstimate $20k ish for new owners. I remember he won a race at Manawatu. He was a Mana horse. He also was named after someone connections hold dear to their hearts. So the NZ win was well received prior the export.

Took a look too at the past weeks stable changes & as it looked like a good start re the transport South to Cambridge incentive with N Chilcott looking like she picked up 2-3 horses from South for Summer. Nothing further 😬

I might also take a look at the trotters from sale & do a comparison. Could they be the saving grace in the North ... ? Cheaper to get into.

Cambridge needs Michael House and South Island horses running there so it attracts some southern punters who would otherwise not bet at Cambridge. The more southern horses the better.

People like Addington, big fields, better quality of horses and grass racing. If the north could sort out a decent summer grass circuit maybe some would send the grass trackers up to the race in the circuit with House. But, the north has turned its back on grass racing to its detriment.

Yip agree. If you take a peak at Camb fields this week, House has a few lined up, which is fantastic. Helps boost numbers. But (u were prob writing when I posted my last post. Re that Transport incentive so far by stable changes only 1 Cambridge stable received from the same 1 South trainer. Be interesting to see if next week any stable changes appear. Great idea and incentive but are people South taking it up. And if not why?

Brillant yes lol of course. That is it! From memory the incentive was free transport up to race, which included all the normal stuff that comes with winning, any Cambridge or Auckland or North Island horse gets, but nothing over & above & as DR & I have discussed & agree & given evidence the racing in North isn't as weak as it used to be, its stronger now (excluding of course Manawatu). So they would therefore need to offer a bonus of some type special for this South horses then to come up. Eg a South horse wins, they get an extra $1k on top of. But then North trainers etc might say hey thats not fair. Hmm interesting.

Oh another note in other news, saw T Hopkins has taken up a full-time job with Woodlands stud. Leaving his full time training partnership with F Cooney. Says - Has 2 young kids so needs a reliable full time consistant income. 

Recall him being on the TV news not too long ago with a wonderful horse rescue in Kumeu.

It shows why the majority of people on this website , and beyond, wouldn't want to have a share in a horse. On top of that, a conservative upkeep for a racing horse of around $30,000 per year.

It highlights how we are all different, as I have been in horse ownership for 48 years. Why? Because I choose too, and don't have some of the other wonderful vices that other people do.

Id need more info etc but thinking (which of course this thinking could change based on more info being provided) is that either

a/ stakes are not high enuf & have not increased in relation to purchase price.

b/ prices are over inflated at yearling sales.

c/ other reason.

d/ all of above.

Also thinking that the winners are those at the highest end e.g. All Stars and also those that are hobby trainers/owner or smaller trainers/owners e.g. B Negus, as an example purchases a horse or 2 at weanling sales for say $5k, has the usual horse costs but just time as his own time to train so no training fees. If that horse then wins say $20-30 ish k as a 2-3 y/o then gets sold on to Aus for a profit.

Im thinking with Sweetie Lewey, not to sell, no matter the price. Think Sweetie will be a riding horse post racing 🏇
