He had quite a few starts at 2; won enough of them to cop big weights later in the season. I vaguely recall him lugging a massive weight around Trentham, 62 or 63kg? ngakonui grass
Don't know his complete race record but he started 11 times as a 2 year old and i believe he won 7. One of his wins he carried 62.5.
pete
I think he was injured as an early 3 year old and retired to Stud. That's just from memory so could be wrong.
Hesi
Can't recall him doing much after his 2 year old career. Grandsire was Palestine, the sire of Pakistan II, probably explains why he was so fast

Peter retired from Trentham in the 80's as I remember .. as we had a bit of a farewell.. as long as my memory serves me right.. and then Alan Bright and Dan Myers took over covering meetings. Tony Lee was already doing Hutt Park and some other Harness meets in the late 80s/early 90's and I know he was definitely there for Castletown in 1994 🙂 It just sounds like him to me. He prepared for the world's richest two-year-olds with narrow defeats to Strategic in the Gr III Skyline Stakes and to Octagonal in the Gr II Todman Slipper Trial, but was allotted the outside draw for the Slipper and finished fourth. PWJ
Thursday trivia A couple of smart gallopers quinellaed the Stewards Handicap at Riccarton 35 years ago this week. Who were they ? First clues: Winning jockey had the initials A.K.R. and the runner-up rider C.B.R. A Dennis Brothers grey gelding made all the pace but was nailed inside the last 100m. The winner was only 4th favourite...

Double R
10 minutes ago, Hesi said: AKR, would be A K Robinson ? I remember in my much younger days living in Dunedin, we referred to him as longshot AK, because he seemed to ride winners that were paying good money. I remember back in the 60's going to Wingatui, and I think he rode the first leg winner called Castle Gregory, and paid something like 108 pounds, and my father had one ticket on it, and exchanged it, as in those days at the races you purchased your first leg, and exchanged it before the second leg, and he put it on the favourite, Bold Venture, I think ridden by Brian Anderton. He won, and the double was over 900 pounds, which I think he got a quarter of. Back in those days 200 pounds was a huge amount of money. Too many clues 🤣 I can't recall the horse he rode, but the initials prodded my memory. On the Stewards Handicap. There was a horse at Wingatui called Shewetta, and she is the fastest horse I have ever seen out of the barrier. She was a little steel grey, and I am sure she won the Stewards. Oh, the memories come back.
