Was googling TG and came across Tom Gentry and went from there although it didn't look likely for a while.

I met Tom a couple of times. A larger than life character who was like the hottest used car salesman you could imagine - on speed !

Q2 /   Name the 2 great jockeys here ? (Both a mighty Queenslanders lol)  2 points

Q3 /  What is the NZ connection for the 2 of them ?  2 points

Q4 /  Why was this REDEMPTION from their previous lead-up race ?  5 points

Q5 /  How much did big Oz gambler Kerry Packer make out of this Quinella ? (with associate LLoyd)  5 points.

Answers:

Chris Munce steers JEZABEEL up the inside of Champagne (ridden by Glen Boss)  to Quinella the race, the 1998 Melbourne Cup,  for NZ trainers Brian Jenkins and Laurie Laxon.

As NG indicated for Both mares were badly checked in the home straight when up near lead in the Caulfield Cup by Irish jockey Ray Cochrane , with Champagne nearly going over the rail. Cochrane got a month suspension and $20,000 fine.

The mares got their Redemption with the brilliant , well supported Melbourne Cup quinella.

Well done NG  9 points of answers.  Mr Packers bookies were very sore and poor after that one 🏆💰

No, but what a forgotten great he was

Only just visited this thread by accident. Indeed he was a great but not forgotten. Our first little farm in Ky was right across from Golden Chance where he was born and raised and I was at Arlington Park to see him win his second Million in 84.

Knew Tom a bit and his dad Olin, less well. Super salesman as you say PWJ. Think he sold Royal Academy as a yearling for something like 3.5m from memory.

Yes, Bob's daughter Maija.   Very nasty fall with Zedsational a few years back.

Bit of a racing pin up boy in his younger days was Bobby, right from his apprenticeship with Jillo, pics of him used to fill the Racing Annuals each year.   Especially during his association with Uncle Remus.

Actually posts on Racecafe as Turnip Orange

Yes he does.   The Lil Peka 🙂   Some of you who may have been in the racing industry in the upper North Island back in the late 1970's, early 80's,  may remember Paul Harris (Big Fella) who was the stable foreman for Bill Sanders in the days when Chris McNab was stable jockey etc.  and he always used to call Bob the   Lil Pekaaaaa!  🙂   David Peake at the time was called "The Peka" so it was a nod to his ability as a jockey alongside the great David Peake.       Fun memories those 🙂

Well with the passing this week of Peter Wolfenden MBE, one of the greats of Nz Harness Racing and forever immortalised as trainer/driver by the Best Horse in the World in the 1960's Cardigan Bay.

For Monday Trivia we have a fine galloper with part owner and Trainer another legend of harness racing in Australia , who blazed quite a trail in the thoroughbred scene with this bloke.

Who do we have here? and who is the 'Dual code' Whiz who trained him?Northerly.jpg.2c3c90fba9a5a14ab338a47826debe17.jpg

Not often a trotting bloke can do well with thoroughbreds. or other way round. Graeme Rogerson currently double licensed and has the Nz Derby favourite coming up soon too.

Well, the first trotting bloke I recall doing well with thoroughbreds, was a guy you would have seen at Alex Park during the 1980's (when you were driving against The Iceman & Mango. His best was 4 x time Group 1 Winner Dillon Dean.

He then became a Dual License Holder before crossing the ditch a decade back and still trains gallopers around Victoria.

Yes that's Don Dwyer.

AND currently,we have Michael House wearing two hats, training half a dozen gallopers for Lincoln Farms.Actually had a winner just last Saturday,Lincoln County.

Of course you would see some of their pacers running around Albion Park & Redcliffe incl Tommy Lincoln.
