The bigger prize, being a series whitewash, that from the demeanour of the Aus players, they dearly wanted.  There will be rumblings amongst the hierarchy about the delayed declaration, that in retrospect, cost them the win.  Anderson and Broad, could not have lasted another 30 minutes

The bigger prize is 'Retain the Ashes' therefore Win the series. A goal already achieved as you know ,before the Sydney test started. Mission accomplished. This match turned into Pink celebration time. They wanted it to go the distance.

The Rumblings amongst the Hierachy is just their full tummies from the feasting. They're not too worried.

They would be if it was say 2 all going into the Hobart test . BUT it isn't.................

(p.s I was rooting for the Poms the last session. something I've never done before lol. gutsing it out under pressure lol...)

Could have sworn the Aussie cricketers, were more animated at the possibility of winning last night and being one test away from a whitewash, than they were winning the 3rd test and therefore the Ashes.

It's almost bearable to watch with Michael Vaughan back, and it is always bearable to watch with Isha Guha, David Gower and Michael Atherton would have been good,  but how does Warne get to commentate with that drone voice.  Is it because he once went out with Liz Hurley

No doubt you're right they were trying to win. And also a whitewash would be great I spose (but not vital)  2013 was a whitewash in Australia 5-0 and 2017 ashes in Aus,  was a 4 nil win with one draw. So no need to panic about yesterdays draw.  Aus could be on a run of 3 series at home without a single loss .!!!!!  All good .

Thankfully channel 7 that broadcast here have Ponting as the lead commentator.  And is Great !!!!! No Warnie thank goodness lol......

Knowing how much you like Warnie , you'll be away to the cinema to see his new movie.

Just cant handle fast pace

Just can't handle the Ashes in general.

Ashes played in Aus since 1990 when I first went along . (All are 5 test series)

1990's had  3 x series wins 3-0,  3-1,   3-1

then this century 4-1,  5-0,  then a  1-3 Loss ??? (Cook and Pieterson went nuts 2010 for some reason)

Once the wickets start to fall, England will crumble

Over the past decade 5-0,  4-0,  4-0

so 8 wins to 1 loss for 'Ashes series played in Australia'  over the past 30 years.

The queen might well cancel their UK passports and send them to NZ to get some solid practice ??

Aus went out to 2.25, England 1.39 when they were none done for 60 odd.  Not sure the TAB have got that algorithm right, as even at 68 without loss, it was still a huge ask to get 271

I'd say they tend to follow betfair, and add in a margin. England were pretty short at 60 without loss and Aus were about 2.40-2.50 from memory.

better still, since the Pomeranians have not representing the Mother Country to a respectable standard for a decade or more, the Ashes baton/urn must surely fall to a colonial offshoot that is more worthy - the Ultimate Test Champions,
Noo Zeelan'!

The only positive to come out of it, is that we don't have to listen to Warne ramble on about how great everything is about Aussie cricket.  Michael Vaughan was getting pissed off in the end, but kept up his politeness.  Next time a more balanced team please of Vaughan, Atherton and Gower, no Warne, Gilchrist is boring as is Waugh, so Border and Ponting and O'Keefe for the humour

Most devices have a mute option - that usually works for me. The same with racing.

Unfortunately Max, the same atrocities befell the Black-caps Noo zeals when they did try and pluck a boxing day test or the like. 2 years ago the 3 tests against the 'Baggie Greens'  just ended up with a 3-0 crunching.

Their last crack at it.

6 innings of NZ scores were>>>   166 and 171 in Perth,  148 and 240 Melbourne boxing day ,  256  and 136 at SCG .

Slightly better than what the Poms could come up with this time around (almost).

yes, yes, but that was then and this is now ...we are the Test Champions of the World and the Baggy Greens are not.
'Bout time the cricket powers-that-be ordered a 5-Test series in NZ, and stopped pretending the 'dead-and-buried-got-the-ashes-to-prove-it' Poms series is more competitive.

The new tournament ICC World test Championship . Nz win the first title ever . very nice !!!  and against India too , who the Baggies Greens seem to have a bit of trouble beating .( aka last Summer).

Have to say Max , the Black Caps are dead set unlucky to Not be the World One Day Cup Champions as well. Those bloody Poms at Lords, pulling out a rabbit out of the hat to claim a Win??  with scores tied 241 all after 50 overs , and 15 all after the super over. Since When is cricket NOT won by the runs on the board .?  should of been declared 'Joint World Champions' as you can get a Tie in cricket , and that was Definitely a Tie. ( made me throw stuff at the tele in disgust lol...) Next year in India i'll support the kiwi's to see redemption done,  all going well. (or an Oz win pretty good too )

The T20 World cup just completed, is 'pretend' cricket so won't pull that rabbit out to annoy you lol...........

Always been a test cricket fan, been to all 6 of the traditional test grounds in the UK.  Headingley was the highlight, those Yorkshire folk know their cricket and not shy in reminding everyone about it  Happy spending a full day or 2 at a test.  The ODI's still hold plenty of appeal, but don't go as often as I used to.  Gone are the days of the terraces at Eden Park, and taking in as much beer as you could carry in a chilly bin.

T20 has become boring, pretty much the same sort of result in all games now, very limited scope for an exciting game
