Mark Purdon - Unprofessional

What a condescending tone by the stipes, telling the most professional harness participant out there to be 'far more professional' in any situation is a bit of joke. Not just professional, but far more.

Maybe we could create a list of those in harness racing who really do need to be far more professional but that would take awhile.

Reasons for Penalty:

The Penalty Guide provides a penalty starting point of $300. After taking into account the submissions from Miss Haley, the Adjudicative Committee gave Mr Purdon some concession for his guilty plea and reduced the fine to $200. Whilst Mr Purdon was not present, it is noted that the race was a Gr3 Race, and a horse did lose its chance at the start, which cannot be completely determined by Mr Purdon’s actions, however the expectation is that Mr Purdon should be far more professional in this situation.

Conclusion:

Mr Purdon is fined the sum of $200.

Not sure agree with you on this 1 Happy 😃

Heres why, remember back to NZ Cup 2020 & Purdon turned Self Assured around, forcing the others to then ALL have to walk away & around again from the start tapes - effectively delaying the start. (which as highlighted here has recently been pinged for delaying a start). Then next time around of course going down in history was 'that NZ Cup start', resulting with the starter getting fired.

Then we had in the lead up to the 2021 NZ Cup & even tho the rules had changed stand no running or walking start, he refused to stand with Self Assured. Recall mentioning it on here & also remember reading an article from Lincoln Farms whom also picked up on it & wrote about it.

Its probably about time he has been pulled up on standing starts. Especially as this was a Group race. Actually even if it wasn't same rules apply for ALL.

I found it quite amusing as well given the starter down that way lets horses/drivers have running starts and the RIB staff have no issue with that.

MP probably had a plane to catch hence the no show and guilty plea

A great precedent has been set by Ms Haley. Lets see who gets pinged next if at all

This situation happens reasonably often. Drivers mess around all the time and milk it for all they can to be ready to go but yet they target Purdon and have the cheek to say be far more professional with it.

As Addington says, let's see if they do it to anybody else and in a consistent basis.

As for the NZ Cup, the starter was at fault.

Only in the South. Not the North.

Again only in the South.

Why is this happening in the South and not the North?

They need to send Ms Haley up your way to sort things out K😘

We all angels in the North. She not needed here hehe. Your Southern peeps are the ones needing sorting out. See Happy already given us the tip. “Happens reasonably often”

How you doing Addy? Any Harness news in your neck of the woods? I spy a bunch of Cullen/Purdon runners nom-ed for Alex including Akuta & Self Assured, so thats cool to have them up. (Actually don’t think they (Southern folk) try it on up in the North, do they, re stand starts … would that be right ? - don't think Iv seen it up here running starts or delaying starts)?

Happy how is that bedside reading going? Still awaiting your thoughts …

Southland starts have always been a shocker. It goes back to when DD worked out that you could have a run at standing starts and get away with it . BO quickly cottoned onto it and that's one of the reasons why they won/win so many races down that way. A few of the locals have joined the band now leaving only the part timers to miss the boat so to speak.

As for All Stars well its that time of the year , take the Jaffa money on offer and get rid of a few  to  other stables or sell them to Oz. It happens every year so why should this one be any different.

True. Self Assured may not get a run Alex with BD Joe rated in 80's and he is R120.  Sometimes at Alex others like that have missed out e.g. Copy That. Its a problem. With the new calendar which Im not familiar with, not sure what they are up for. What race is the target soon ...

Notice no 2 year olds up from South yet. Altho without still looks like Alex will get the 2yo race off the ground.

There was a workout in weekend with BD Joe & South Coast Arden. South Coast Arden just blew straight past BD Joe in straight, was quite interesting. Mind you sometimes trainers don't try so hard at workouts. But SCA was impressive.

Starts are pretty easy when there are 5 horse fields in the north 😂

The reading is still sitting there. I think this stipes wording for Purdon typifies the hit and miss language they use at the very least. The fawned over Newman / Dunn in the high flying Harry shocker compared to this derogatory statement about Purdon.

Should James Geddes have been told to be 'far more professional' in his driving at Blenheim when he got chucked for 4 days?

All I'm saying is, the language used in this case is inappropriate and borderline disrespectful.

Fair enuff if they havent used this wording for others doing similar.

Re North - Cambridge lately have been getting good numbers, so thats good.

Speaking of Cambridge have noticed recently for some unbeknown reason some trainers drivers there are going hard at workouts in an effort to win maiden pace races including the learners heat. Very strange. Maybe trying to impress owners ...
