PWJ
Okay a miserly clue....in 1920 these people bred and owned the Cup winner at this track. They hailed from Te Miro (this is far too much information to be giving NG !!)

I was always fascinated as a kid as it looked for all the world like a racetrack but just seemed to have a lot of topdressing planes coming and going every time we passed it. PWJ
Compare this coverage of the Te Kuiti meeting 102 years ago in the King Country chronicle compared to what is served up in any national or regional paper today:

Hesi
Was going to say, looking at the huge effort that has gone into building these courses and facilities, at so many smallish towns, makes you reflect on how ingrained racing was in the NZ way of life. My mother took me to the races, her mother before her, took mum, and it was a family outing. Courses were jammed packed. Put that into the context of the times where there wasn't much else to do, entertainment was sparse apart from dances , pictures . And the immigrant population being from the British Isles mostly bought their love of horse racing with them. How times change. NZ is now just a nursery for oversees buyers.
Hesi
Racing still has one of the best entertainment products, it just never told that to all the new generations coming through, so it died as an entertainment product.
PWJ
Friday Trivia Zabeel was the 3rd NZ-bred stallion to be crowned Champion Sire of Australia but who were the first two and what were their major race wins ? Also only two Australian-breds have ever won the NZ Sires Premiership - who were they ?

PWJ
Looks like this one has proved too difficult. Zabeel was the 3rd NZ-bred stallion to be crowned Champion Sire of Australia but who were the first two and what were their major race wins ? Also only two 3 Australian-breds have ever won the NZ Sires Premiership - who were they ? Answer: St. George (1893-94), Thorn Park & Savabeel Also only two Australian-breds have ever won the NZ Sires Premiership - who were they ? Lochiel (won Auckland Cup, NZ Cup, VRC Newmarket & Australian Cup - beating Carbine - sired Tartan, Strowan etc) & Trenton (won CJC Canterbury Plate, Champagne Stks, VRC Melbourne Stks, 3rd Melbourne Cup - sired Wakeful, Auraraia, Revenue, etc)

PWJ
Okay it's nearly Thursday... 😉 The 1981 AJC Derby It was won by a Robert Sangster owned horse, Nigel Tiley rode the runner-up and a grey filly ran 3rd. My question is: Can you name the 7 colts from this race who later went to stud. Clues: a) only 4 of them left at least one stakeswinner - name them ? b) Only two left a Gr1 winner - who were they ?
