There is only one MC run in the 1930's, that someone could be bothered taking a picture of the cannister the film was in
Hesi
28. The 1868 MC would have been a godsend for punters on the NZ TAB today, with no deductions, why? Quite a hard one with quite a bit of joining the dots to do, so we will make this a 5 pointer, to allow some of the stragglers to make a run at the leaders
Hesi
One of the horses involved was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of fame in 2004

I'm guessing he was a massive pre-post favourite but withdrawn late

Win or lose ,no deductions?. Just a guess.

Hesi
You have to explain why, if the TAB had been taking bets on the race with their no deduction policy(all hypothetical), why punters would be wrapped
Globederby19
Just a guess. He was known as the Black Demon because of his temperament. My guess would be he threw his jockey at the start.

Globederby19
Ok. Glencoe who won the race was owned by John Tait, who also owned The Barb who never finished the race or never started due to late withdrawal. Maybe the two were bracketed in the book.??? Globederby19
If PJ is right give him the 5 points Hesi. The only Bard I had ever heard of was the silly prick we were hammered with at College.

Globederby19
Maybe because when the market opened whenever that is theoretically, The Bard took most of the money. When he didn't start eventually or was withdrawn late those canny enough to have backed the stable mate prospered . Insider knowledge? PWJ
As a side note, I love the horses' names from the 1868 Cup - Little Fish, Cedric, Ragpicker, The Fly, Nimblefoot, Strop and his buddy Stumpy ! We need more names like these today

Near enough 5 points As you say, Honest John Tait owned both the champ of the day The Barb and his second stringer Glencoe, which was heavily backed in the cup lead up, then The Barb was withdrawn, and Glencoe won the race. TAB would be seriously investigating betting patterns had that happened today, and of course in their T&C's, have the right to refuse to pay out
