    The good old days.

Very hard to get a line on how Harry was going....you and your much better half were generally  the first at the track each morning....worked Harry in the darkness  so no one could put the stopwatch  on him..... cunning  very cunning.   But you definitely got the rewards for your dedication  and  time and care.

Laceration - He was my pet! After dead heating in a race on 5th July with Sobeck at Wanganui, Merv Andrews came to Mrs vS and said "you have got Don Grubb worried" as they knew we were aiming for the 1988 Parliamentary Hcp.  Won the Parliamentary that year and repeated the following year. Had so much fun with that horse winning 9 races from 28 starts. We retired him straight after the 1989 Parliamentary as a 9yo (didn't start racing until a late 6yo) and he enjoyed a great retirement until he was 30 yo.

God only knows what it will be like on the day.

Its a beustiful day here in Trentham....should be a  scorcher of a day...around 24-25 degrees. Any moisture should dry  out.

10 years to the  day since ive been to  any  gallops meeting, and only been to Trentham once in those years and that was for a  funeral.

Lincoln King to win the  Cup ?

I read some market research done by thoroughbred about 10 years ago, I wish I could find it again.

In a nutshell it asked people about their attitudes towards horse racing.

There was an overwhelmingly negative response, with the perception being that the game was dodgy, if you were not in the game, you were on the back foot and at a disadvantage, wagering wise.

The only positive to come out of it was the high level of positivity towards how enjoyable a day at the races was

Its only a rort if you arent in on it

Racing: Whip rules to be reviewed after heated week - NZ Herald

    Here's some easy suggestions

First offence (regardless of finishing position) - disqualification

Second offence within 6 months - disqualification and $1000 fine

Third offence within 6 months - disqualification and $5000 fine and suspension for 5 days

For each additional offence within 6 months - disqualification and additional $2500 fine for each offence, additional 3 days suspension.

Should sort them out. Who gives a toss whether they are outed and/or available for a G1 or a maiden. FFS.

    I can see an issue...

Imagine a race....couple of hundred metres to go and the leader is cruizing and is out in front by a few  lenghts...the jockey is just sitting on it... not using hands and  heels,nothing...just sitting...at this point it cant be  beat, the others are struggling.

The  horse currently running in second is going to finish second......but......all the  jockeys have bet on this runner. So the jockey on the  leader pulls the whip and gives the horse a whipping to the finishing post.....Then gets disqualified ( but thats the plan )....The jocks  collect and everyone has a  huge laugh.

My solution ( while def. not perfect ) would be to outlaw the use of the  whip unless needed for  safety. If a  jock uses the  whip they get  fined the equivilent of all  the  payout money of the horse  on the NZ TAB ( fixed odds and Tote ) Yup that could run to tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars as a  fine.

Can you tell im  against using the whip at all ?

  6. Hi racefans.

Just had a phone call from one of my sisters....her friend is a resident of the  retirement village at Trentham and has heard That Summerset ( village operators ) have purchased more land  of the WRC. Has anyone here heard anything and  confirm?.

Where the  retirement village is located the I presume tha only land available would be  up  the chute or possibly the old leger stand area

    Stats/public info on this 1.

Nice trial win 1 Dec 2021

    Then

Stable change on 27 Dec 2021 to Woodend Beach

Ownership change on 29 Dec 2021 to KTO Trust, M Schinkel

    It won nicely today infront.

TAB Form Guide says Watch Betting (as per screen shot).

Maybe someone or 2 was given the tip this horse is a good chance to win 1st up.

Totally agree that some people knew ....but it should never have been  at 7s and should always have been the  fav....who is doing trading at the  TAB today?

I used to look at that BGP app when it first came out and checked to see whether this Ted was any good. He had a terrible strike rate for such a stream of favourites just like you pointed out. The comments were all generic reasons why they should go good.

If you take enough short priced favourites you would hope you get a few and most would be roundabouts so to newbie punters or ones who have no idea the tipster might look like they know something.

Even as a harness person I could tell the analysis was done on the cheap. For a start, there is no way you can give tips for meetings in OZ and NZ non stop. I don't believe there is enough time in the day. Then, with their pathetic punters club efforts where they descended into desperate bets at the end showed all of them have no real idea. It is almost a cult.

Same can be said for Mick Guerin and Greg O'Connor and their efforts in the Cup Week punters club. They were deer in the headlights and the bet they had on Idle Stuartia was desperation with a capital D.

I remember Guerin  tipping  out  Auckland reactor @ $1.05.........it lost
