Am I the only person here who nearly fell off his chair when reading Barry holds a senior Management role in a company?(sorry Baz)😁

i wonder how they do on diversity and inclusion?

Thanks to my Styx guys Our Maizcay, Gordy, Robert, and Smiler. This was one of the best teams I've ever been associated with, and I thank all four of you for your marvellous contributions to the team.

thanks Howie, i really enjoyed being part of your team, you certainly add a lot to these great comps with your banter and your positive nature

Well that 7 race bronze play-off match turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax but congrats to STYX for doing just that to us as my poor overworked team limped out of the comp on the back of 3 consecutive losses.

Sasha, Stevie N, Zig & Midnight Caller it was a real pleasure having you guys in KAOS. When we were hot we were sizzling. Congrats MC for being the top individual scorer over the whole comp too.

Your captain is leaving the building.....

thanks for the score updates today Ray, top notch

see you in Turbos training camp

  4. my comment was in no way intended to disrespect Peter's effort

there's been plenty of comments on this thread prior to today that diverge from the comp results

you think my comment about a captain not checking for scratchings is disrespecting Peter's efforts, but the fact that a captain can't be arsed is not disrspecting the comp??

No further comment on this thread on this topic please, this is PJ's results thread and we don't want a squabble on here.  PJ puts far too much effort into this comp to disrespect that

Start a new thread elsewhere if you feel the desire to comment.

    seriously?

It's a shame your captain failed to pick that up Rob.

i thinka while back he said something like he doesn't have time to chase after his teammates picks

didn't have time to check his Randwick selections for scratchings either

    possibly missed the captaincy brief!?

little wonder everyone plays their joker against his team

yes, but in the same way 0.0001kg of extra weight has the potential to have 'some effect'.

think of how much your punting could improve due to the impact of knowing a rider weighed out at 54.9997kg or 55.0003kg instead of the 55kg they were meant to have. Is this going to have an impact on the result? Because you seem to be suggesting it will.

no you seem to be unable to read my posts properly.  nowhere on this thread have I referred to the impact of weight relative to price, race outcome, punting success, etc..

my initial comment was in response to someone saying that 5kgs of extra weight wouldn't slow a horse down - I commented that the laws of physics mean that it should.  that's all that I've said, you seem to be reading other stuff into this

however I will defer to your superior intelligence, which you continue to seek to demonstrate (in a painfully sanctimonious fashion) and I will concede that you know more than every trainer (and handicapper) in the world who think that weight does make a difference

By the way OM, you missed, the earth is flat, Covid was a conspiracy, the CIA arranged the shooting of Kennedy and organised 9/11 lol lol.

good point, clearly might have been better examples to use than the events of the early ‘40s

Tell us all what it is then?.

How much & over what distances, I obviously am missing something since I don't consider it. Based on your intelligent posts on the topic I need to incorporate it, but my PC needs actual specifics to be able to interpret it.

    Please enlighten us all.

read my posts again and a little more carefully

I'm not professing to know how much difference weight makes to a horse's time over various distance, that is obviously impossible to determine with any accuracy (as the articles go on to state)

I was just responding to your statement that a 5kg weight difference wouldn't cause a horse to run slower

both articles, and basic physics, tell you that you are wrong

ps. I thought you left?  you've come back more times than Mike Tyson! 🙂

You need to read Curious post above as it clearly doesn't show that.

the second para of the article Curious posted

"undoubtedly there must be some effect of weight"

    it's simple physics

I can't understand it, so I must be thick.

    yes!

as per the article on the previous page

A basic understanding of the laws of physics tells you that weight carried has to have some impact on the speed at which a horse can run.

Jesus thats a bit off, I hardly am in Hesi's fan club, but over the last few years hes shown on here at willingness to listen, be challenged & learn from his mistakes in punting, some others on here haven't displayed the same.

    no show without Punch 🙂

if Hesi has any aspirations for this site to be taken seriously in the racing industry then he should perhaps think twice about making statements that trainers in NZ are just blindly believing and following what their predecessors told them

of course if he wants to keep this site to the "triumverate of wisdom" then by all means carry on as is

Most trainers have obtained their knowledge from working for a more senior experienced trainer, who obtained theirs in a similar manner and so on.  So it is not beyond the realms of possibility that such beliefs have been passed down from an age, as mentioned in this thread, when there was a large weight spread and big weights were carried by horses.

lol, your head is so far up this guy's ---- that he could tell you the Holocaust didn't happen or man didn't land on the moon and you'd probably come up with some inane crap like this to support his viewpoint 🙂

  14. 10 hours ago, mardigras said:

I don't know, ask them. My suspicion would be they have the same beliefs that most punters do.

    yeah you could be right

all of the best trainers in NZ and around the world might not be as smart as you when it comes to factors like weight

    • Haha 1
  15. if weight carried is inconsequential, why do trainers sacrifice riding ability/experience for a 3kg or 4kg claim?

and why do trainers talk about placing their horses to advantage in the weights?

i thought if anyone would know, trainers might!?

I note also that people make these bold statements such as barrier draws being one of the most important factors in assessing potential outcomes, but never support it with any data.

that's true but nor have I seen any data from those who assert the opposite, and I'm no statistician but I suspect your sample of 10 or 20 Slippers probably doesn't qualify

and it seems there might be two different arguments going on here

one is whether barrier draws have an effect on the outcome of a race (or many races) and the other is whether barrier draws affect the price more than they should
