Remember him well, as he ran last in the Levin Classic with a heart problem, then went on to win almost everything after that.

An example of a horse, that in today's world would pose the connections with the question, NZ Derby or NZB Kiwi slot race

No it wouldn't  unless a slot holder invited them

Reviewing all the races, nothing made ground from the back.  Was this because they were going so quickly in front, or has the 'shifty' track caused this

Put ya glasses  on hesi. Watch just as sharp run

In my opinion, this is what will happen.

3 year old racing in Nov/Dec/Jan is predominantly 1600m.  Then in Feb, 2000/2100m races become available such as Avondale and Waikato Guineas and Sir Tristram Fillies Classic.

So, you are sitting there with a well performed 1600m horse, not sure if it will go over 2000m and then up to 2400m.  What do you do, try it over 2000m, if it runs well or averagely, you then have the choice to continue on to the Derby, or change tack and drop back to 1500m for the slot race, not ideal.

Alternatively you could say, we know we have a horse that runs well over 1600m, let's go for the much richer slot race over 1500m.  The horse has done well in the 1.5 mil KM 3-year-old race, we will find a lead up race in Feb over 1400/1600m to top it off for the 1500m slot race.

Which option are connections going to go with.  If 50% go with the second option, that is going to have a big impact on the quality of the Avondale and Waikato Guineas, but most importantly the Derby, which as someone has said, the G1 status is already under pressure

But it's a slot race, so you don't choose to race  in   it, the slot holders do? Is that correct?

What a run sitting parked all the way, and a quick time to boot. The horse just glides over the ground, even under pressure. That was first up !!, 15th in a row, gee how good can this animal get.

The thing that has really being getting up my nose of late, is, and my daughter in law seems to think I am too 'old' in my ways, so I keep my mouth shut

Since when did this country become Aotearoa/NZ

Why is it only ever Waka Kotahi not NZ Transport Agency

Te Whatu Ora never Health NZ

Why has the word family disappeared and everyone refers to whanau

Why do large companies and Govt departments, in written correspondence, only evet greet you and bid you farewell in Maori

I have no problem  with Maori  names or entities.  Some of them do bloody  good work, but you'll never hear of them . What gets me the most though, is how they became  indigenous  people  since 2017?  Always thought  there's only 2 indigenous  races still alive,  the aborigines  and the American  Indians?

I don't, outside of it being poorly run and a drain on the taxpayer.

Sometimes you have to take a realistic approach. Rather than me thinking of myself and what suits me - I prefer to think about what is best overall, and in this case, best overall for the country. More racing is great for me. But in this case, it is a poor decision for the country.

One of the issues is that there is no accountability. An organisation aimed at making money would have ditched racing years ago. The cost/benefits including social gains and losses simply don't stack up.

I don't disagree that things have been poorly managed. Most of where we are now has been self inflicted - and supported by the majority of entities within racing as well.

Some are just too self-centred, ill-informed or nostalgic - rather than being pragmatic.

There is no accountability  in monopolies? Just look at auckland  airport

I thought it was better that the Maori Party had slipped to 2%.  God forbid if they hold the balance of power

Colonistion  caused all the problems,  yet they wear  colonial  made shirts, shoes and  drive colonial  cars.

The entire NZ Racing industry. The breeding industry can carry on without racing. This is just the government further endorsing another way of delivering a handout to NZ Racing. But for what purpose. NZ Racing is a bit player in NZ that simply does not justify the tax payer support from government.

Under the new deal, the majority of the money to the racing industry is still going to come from revenues generated outside of NZ racing - yet gifted to them.

I am a massive racing fan - but not to the detriment to the country as a whole.

Obviously  you have a bee under the bonnet with nz racing.  Either way, the tab had to do something,  it  has been badly managed  in my view.  If you can get the story, look at the grandstand  they are proposing  for Caulfield

Shut down racing in NZ. It's what should have happened already in my view. It's an unnecessary drain on money that would be better spent elsewhere. It's a tiny speck on NZ as an entity or as an employment group.

    Who you talking  about?

This Government actually bailed out the industry when they were about to default on their loans. The appalling state of the industry has come about from at least 20 years of appalling mismanagement of assets, products and services. No better example than the astonishingly dumb deal on creation and servicing of the new betting platform... $40-50M was it? Not to mention outrageous overpayments to under-performing CEOs and others.

Doubt it was this govt, more winnie .the new platform  was under Allen though wasn't it?

The phrase about "too good to be true" was rattlin' through Maxi's overside brain as well. You don't have to dig too deep or for too long to see Entain have an appalling record overseas in some areas, notably huge fines - millions and millions of pounds - related to Problem Gambling.

    MM

Yes maxi, but this govt have done a fair bit  to dampen peoples  spirits,  and racing  is never going to  be in the spotlight for them so they really had no choice? What's the alternative?

Just reading that now Bryce 😢. He was ticking along nicely such a talent.

But on a personal side not going home to his family is devastating

Devastating  for his family,   all the horse fraternity  over in oz and here

I can recall a time many moons ago, when some wag elsewhere, lamented whether a NZ horse could ever win a G1 in Aus

With the above 4, I make it 7 in the 22/23 season

Was watching  7  racing channel here in melb, and the commentators were mentioning  how kiwi breeds, were doing so well and expecting  it to continue

    You think so Tom?

I presume this journo has sniffed out something, and why would he make a claim of 300 redundancies unless he had some solid basis.  Pretty mischievous to start talking in public about redundancies unless you have something

Anything  on stuff is either left leaning  or heresay

  15. Always be Miki,  c t and  bettors certainly  will be in demand  I think . But gee merlin is 1 out  of the bag. Think the runner up is going to  very good  in time. The race itself , certainly   can take most of the first 7/8 home as being  a good year for 3 yr olds

He's flying all right.   He and the two Saffies are showing just how average the rest are.  IMO.

    Absolutely.

  17. Unbelievable  riding at the moment.  Question  tho, what is the most wins by a  jockey in 1 week in nz?  He must be close to a record?
