    PEMBROOK PLAYBOY.

Provided he drives it ok its a big chance to run in 3 in Cup. But his Addington strike rate is only fair. And I'm  not bagging Nathan but there is a big difference between driving in Canterbury and down South especially in higher grade Pacing races

The  only driver from Southland who was consistently able to mix it with he top Canterbury drivers at Addington was Henry Skinner IMO.  His strike rate was superb as he knew both form and pace.

Is anyone else saddened with the way the TAB is funding the codes now days and how Harness is being disadvantaged ?

Cant see how harness is being disadvantaged under new Act. The codes argue their case for how much of the pie they should get. Didn't Woodham and Co say they were happy with current payout but needed to lift in Export revenue. Fact is around the Globe TB's are more popular with owners breeders and punters.

I do like these ideas from Happy Sunrise though

They don't trust harness enough on a Sunday meeting to give bonus bets. To be honest, I can't blame them.

Perhaps that why Aussies dont /wont bet on our product?

I would like rather see quaddie injections for harness than first fours but that is just my preference.

I think there is something inherently wrong with this programming. Newcomers to the track get a stake of 25 000 and a Group 3 FFA has a stake of 35 000.

    A 10 000 difference. That is pathetic.

    Sell....sell....sell.....sell.....sell.....

Agree with you 100%. What surprises me  is why more NZ owners dont retain ownership  when they send their horses offshore. Spellbound is a classic example of what i'm on about.

Maybe they should boost Cup Day stakes by taking a little out of the Jewels money and get it up to 50 000 per race.

The problem with that option  and it has been studied before by officials is that it wont make any difference to the quality of the fields on Cup week. So its not going to provide any more income to the club via increased turnover.

If you can identify the ones that are not "trying", doesn't that make it easier for you sort out winners?

Yes, but only at a later date. To clarify, there may be horses just having a run so to speak. Some  legitimately, others I cant be sure about until i watch the event.

I am not sure what you mean about not wanting to be rehandicapped

Horses that win on Monday, especially trotters ,will be in a higher grade during Cup week.  Just my observations.

Hi Addington & welcome Im a newbie too here 👋😃

That was sad re U May Cullect. He had that speed & stamina too.

On another note below is another article about Cup no BIG crowd announcement.

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/racing-new-zealand-cup-week-cops-major-covid-blow/6SCEMQ6WFIE2MOELRRJESLOUWA/

    Within article was this quote.

"The one silver lining to the Cup week crowd reductions for both clubs is if Auckland remains in lockdown during Cup week the turnover on the race meetings will be through the roof".

"So much of the country's betting turnover comes out of Auckland and Saturdays Hastings and Ashburton thoroughbred meetings boasted enormous turnovers as people in northern regions have few other live entertainment options, matching digital turnover trends worldwide during lockdowns".

Peeps love to run down Aucklanders, BUT according to this article y'all need us 😉

    Thanks for the welcome.

Given its Harness's biggest day turnover wise only time will tell what happens this year. One thing is for sure, the catering income which is huge for NMTC must surely take a big hit.
