Can you explain to me how this happened given Imperatriz carried 1.5 kg more in the latest run than the prior Flemington run.

    November 11, 2023 Flemington Good 4, 1200m 56.5kg time 1.09.08 (1st by 0.5 lengths)

    March 9, 2024 Flemington Good 4, 1200m 58.0kg time 1.09.05 (beaten by 1.25 lengths)

She ran faster with more weight. Seems unlikely given how much impact weight has. And with a heart issue as well.

having the bigger weight does not stop her from running faster than a previous run/win. The weight carried has to be taken in context ie relative to the quality of, and weights carried by, the opposition.
The example you quote shows an almost negligible difference in the recorded time but the track conditions, (including wind speed and direction), draw, tempo of race and position in running were different second time around.
At the risk of stating the obvious, Imperatriz was beaten by a horse that ran faster under prevailing conditions that day. As LB rightly says, the pull in the weights under handicap conditions made a difference; had it been WFA Cylinder would have had a much tougher job of getting past her in the last 100m.

    5kgs to a 450kg horse is equivalent to 1kg on a 90kg human.

Are you seriously telling me that an elite human athlete would suffer any significant performance degradation from carrying a 1kg weight in an athletics race?

Are you seriously trying to compare the athletic performance of a horse with a human carrying weight?

  3. What would be interesting is an analysis of (say) the last 20yrs of Slipper winners focusing on where they landed in the running.
How many have led/trailed from whatever draw?
How many have settled midfield or worse and outfinished the leaders?

and how many of the winners were Champion 2yos of their year and/or went on to be top 3yos?
and how many of the winners from wide draws were on soft/heavy ground (where, the theory goes, the wider draw may be less of a 'disadvantage'?

Rather than the ramble, you might want to pay attention to your captaincy.  LB's #1 in Comp race 4 was not replaced.  Which may have cost you a bonus point and maybe kept you in contention still.  As it turns out, not

I think you are reaching, counsellor ...a bonus point today is neither here nor there, but 5-zip is an awfully good result against the self-declared pre-Comp favourites, don't ya think?
Max is far too busy to nursemaid his teamies each and every Saturday, so sometimes a selection will fall through the cracks.
It doesn't bother Max, so it shouldn't bother you. Besides, the magic Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie LB had you covered with his 19 selections, so that's an even bigger shellacking.

But take comfort, Hesi-meister ...It's no disgrace to lose by a down-trou to the competition 'easybeats'.

  5. Max interrupts his own party to commend all the Factory Crew for outstanding productivity today - shame it wasn't when the TJ was played but we don't cry over spilt Moet here at Max Factory. Thanks for the match, Reapers, your sickle was a tad too rusty today/
Must dash ...back to the Tearoom, where the delectable Mrs W (aka Maximum Squeeze) is about to
Pull A Swiftie with the raunchiest version of 'Shake It Off' you've ever seen. Or heard.
    Hesi
will probably need to grab his medication after these gyrations. I know Rob can't look, and Barb is apparently enrolled for lessons starting next week.

But yer all welcome to join us!. What was that scoreline again?

1976 - did not complete the course

led by a dozen lengths top of the straight, sailed over it then put his foot in a hole two strides after landing, lost the jock who went over the horse's head and bounced along the track like a basketball as the rest of the field thundered past ...never found his skull cap (lost in the mud)

I do go to considerable effort to make sure things like rules are easily and readily accessible.  The RED side panel announcement

then p'raps you can put in equally considerable effort to put up a Side Panel for the Punters Club,
since it is in action today and over the next couple of months

recall him (not Eric!) running over jumps at Trentham ..mid1970s perhaps? and at Riccarton ...liked to set his own terms in front  a  la English Gambler of recent times ...didnt always end well..fell in the GN Hurdle when miles in front two fences to go
