curious
OK. We've got 11 races carded at Pukekohe, all with up to 6 ballots. That's a f up to start with but there's surely nowhere near enough weight spread for this type of open entry approach? Or, they need to split these races in two. For example, take R11 the 2100m race below. Who is going to run an R45 maidener against a tough old 3 flat win R62 horse at level weights? Or for that matter an R67 getting only 5.5kgs from an R82? The same issue is evident in other races. I thought the idea was to make the races competitive in order to attract punting turnover. 11 Starting limit: 14, Ballots: 6 Open Entry Flat Race 2100m - $15,000 Open /Close Silk Horse Trainer Age Sex Order Rating Weight Sweet Treat Team Rogerson 6 Mare - 82 63.00 Magnanimous Man Craig and Shaun Phelan 6 Gelding - 67 57.50 Windy Height Antony Fuller 8 Gelding - 67 57.50 Plushenko Grant & Tana Shaw 5 Gelding - 65 56.50 Delegate Shaun & Emma Clotworthy 7 Gelding - 62 55.00 Van Blanc Craig and Shaun Phelan 5 Gelding - 60 55.00 Gabriel Grant Tucker 6 Gelding - 59 55.00 Ngatira Gold Samantha Logan 9 Gelding - 59 55.00 Henry Tudor Samantha Logan 10 Gelding - 56 55.00 Arite Guru Shaun & Emma Clotworthy 8 Gelding - 55 55.00 Iffraajinator Karen Fursdon 5 Gelding - 55 55.00 Seconds Out Iain Marks 10 Gelding - 55 55.00 Top Choice Shaun & Emma Clotworthy 10 Gelding - 55 55.00 Caballo Noir Shaun & Emma Clotworthy 8 Gelding - 52 55.00 Old Countess Peter & Jessica Brosnan 10 Mare - 45 55.00 Villa Nine Peter & Jessica Brosnan 5 Gelding - 45 55.00 Edited June 16, 2020 by curious
Freda
Yeah, that has been my concern too. I have long supported the open entry system - before Covid-19 that is - but our handicapping was the big worry for me. Seems to be valid looking at all this. If there was ever an obvious case to review the system, here it is.
