BS and spin: other materials needed in great quanitity for the rebuild.

    Hey its..."proactive" BS and spin.

  2. Now when the track does eventually open people will be reluctant going along if the day at risk of being cut short. Guerin should be canvassing opinion not just his own disguised apologist bias.

Now last winter we had the worst ever affect on tracks. Far worse than Ellerslie experienced. Avondale last year ended up with an issue on one part of the track and straight away they were red carded with no cooperation from Head Office.

100% agree but as I said they seem to know more than anyone and why the hell did they not fix the contours going out of the straight and the camber of the corner...for the sake of keeping its character ...well it lost that when they sold the hill I would of thought...and why on earth with the amount they spent was there a need still for a crossing where it is...surely it could have been a tunnel under the track...but hey thats like commonsense.

Not sure if you are aware of the flashy tunnel constructed at the other end. I can never understand the blase attitude about crossings. Many horses hurdle it and looking at incidents there seems a lot of serious falls after the finish line. The crossing just a short cut to the golf complex. Surely at least some sort of plank system could be used.

  4. I played the Ellerslie Golf Course the other day. Couldn't find many holes there. Maybe should have played the track.

Apologies to NG and everyone else. i led you astray on the sex of the winner. It was a mare named Inkling. Slam Dunk was on the right track. She was a half-sister to Sir Blink who also won the VRC Derby.

The pic is from the archive of Taranaki Photo News

    PJ,

On doing a bit of googling I note Sir Blink was bred just above the beach i.e. Urenui. by an I.R. Cole. Now I did quite a lot of hunting in those days and one of the key people in the Hunt Club there was Ivan Cole. So I guess the main organiser of the beach races would have been him.

I thought I knew a bit about Taranaki racing but the Sir Blink connection never registered. Also in those days there were a lot of boutique studs so I presume Blue Coral would have stood at one of them.

How about you being a Taranaki man? Were you aware of the Sir Blink story?

Top work, SD. It is Waitoetoe Beach. Used to go surfcasting there with the old man as a kid. I think that is Mr Kamo !

Guessing the winner may be a tough ask. He was by Golovine.....

Soon as I saw the photo something told me I was there that day. Can't remember the year and don't know what it was that told me I was here. The question I have where did you source the photo from?

The Golovine horse is on the tip of my tongue.

I note also that people make these bold statements such as barrier draws being one of the most important factors in assessing potential outcomes, but never support it with any data.

I find a clear relationship with barrier draw and position in running. THose that say barrier draws not relevant to punting yet position in running is very important are illogical as one leads to the other. Example Race1 tomorrow Holy Orange likely to lead yet in last 3 starts has been positioned near the back.

I looked up part of the 4th day racecard for the 1909 Flemington Cup carnival. Two of the races had weight spreads exceeding 25kg - this is a huge raceday.

The 1924 Auckland Cup the top weight carried 9st 7lb. There were 4 horses on the bottom weight of 6st 7lb. Thats about 20kg difference. Some of the other races the range was even greater.

Really, I concur with Pete on this. It might pay to go back and re-read some of Mardigras posts and explanations on his modus operandi in finding value . You are obviously completely lost in this case . Only Mardi could elaborate or reply but Im sure he can't be bothered in light of the ignorance shown.

I am happy to run any query on New Zealand races from a pool of 84,000 races i.e. 30 years but it would need an "intelligent" list of parameters plus filters e.g. we are not interested in jumping races.

Something like what is the average tote price for winners from each draw along with their success rate. Track conditions and distance need to be separated. Even then the anomalies are huge so it needs a clear statement as to what the question is and answer required.

  11. Man I cannot believe the likes of Mardigras etc and how naive (thats being kind) they are. If saying saying draws don't mean much longterm they forget that track conditions and even the track make the figures even out over time. So if inside draws are favourable on dry tracks and outside draws on wet tracks the overall results for barrier draws cancel out leading to the false conclusion draws don't matter.

I would suggest running a query over say 1200m races run in less than 1:11.00 and see how the draws trended.

  12. My Final Score

    Yesterday's return $0.00

Total spend $3200 total return $3987.40   profit $787.40

Maxi...(forgot !!!) were you running this comp or was it Joe Biden??

What I've learned from this comp is that place multi's can be effective if chosen wisely and with value in mind. e.g. No point risking multi with horse say drawn 12 over 1200m. Throwing in a winner along with 3 placegetters sounds a reasonable play and qualifies for bonus bet if three of them successful.
