Hesi
Many of those holiday meetings always struggled for numbers of horses, so took a look back 15 years, at the Dec 27 Taranaki meeting 2006 - 72 starters over 9 races, 8 starters per race, total stakes 76K(6K maidens) 2021 - 102 starters over 8 races, 12.75 per race, total stakes 104K(37% increase, or 2.5% per year) Hard to get a read on what is happening in NZ racing. As we know, the stakes are abysmal, but improving, but the number of horses racing, seem to be increasing
Bloke
Was there not also a competing meeting at Stratford a couple of days later in 2006? If so this may be why the fields were smaller back then.
