Lightning Blue
Well they've come down in race 2 as Hawera racing resumes today , with a couple of runners hitting the grass. She's a rough old track. The best you can do not to bounce out of the sulky on occasion. had a 2nd there once to John Butcher ,before all his kin started driving. John was a warrior and fantastic horseman. no wonder the boys are all doing so well. shame Philip got the sulks and went shoeing instead in the end. (David Butcher involved just then I think) Wonder if the Taranaki trots would be best to race at New Plymouth up the road ? had a great all-weather track there once. wonder if still there? would be safer than your horse sticking it's leg down the Big holes in Hawera track I would think.
karrotsishere
Yeah caught that, had it on in background with NO noise. Whilst not really watching doing other things, glimpsed up & saw 1 come down, then another, then maybe another ... then later more chaos. Hopefully no one including horses & horsemen-woman not hurt. No idea who was involved due to no volume etc.

No .All good the commenttor said . David Butcher back driving race 4 on horse CAULFIELD in the famous Red and maltese cross training with his father John ( Vinnie Knight the best in Victoria , once had the reverse of that , with gold and red Maltese cross ,RIP vinnie) LB stupidly putting a redback on it (Caulfield) with a good Aussie name like that . but David he sat there and cruised and dozed, as Benjamin Butcher went on by up the straight. Aren't they allowed to use Whip at all anymore ? looks so tame these days in NZ. noticed that in SouthIsland trots yesterday too. You'll see some more vigour at Menangle and Melton next couple of days thank goodness. bit more urgency needed there IMO.

Any chance he didn't want the outside gate in the final?

Well the drives on American Me (JAbernathy) and New York Minute (David Butcher again) were terrible in the Stratford Cup Race 8 . The 2 best horses in the race by a long way, and they just Tag along at the back and run on late , not even trying to get near the win. Commentator even said they are being kept for the 3000m Hawera Cup on Sunday , so today just a sighter. Whatta Disgrace. Punters have no chance when the best horses don't even have a crack. Thank goodness we have Allstars who always have a crack and Also....... Thank goodness ADDINGTON is on , where all the races have been good today, and the drivers showing lots of vigour and everyone having a Go. that's much better......

Funnily enough someone said 'they will prob want to get some place money before getting the win'. As the convo was on how this horse might win 1st up after watching replays of him at workouts. Not sure if this is the case at all & certainly not suggesting that. Didn't watch race nor seen replay yet, next time speak to person who made comment, will have to mention your comment above & your bet lol. American Me would of been a special in Sundays Hawera Cup..... , instead Tony has popped in wife Suzanne's horse 'Last Tango In Heaven.' with Roy's passing this week you would think the Heavens will see that horse winning?. (Think that is Owen with a share too) .Q.
karrotsishere
CAULFIELD - Driver D Butcher was questioned regarding his apparent lack of vigour in driving this gelding out over the final stages. After taking initial evidence from Mr Butcher and viewing the replays the matter was adjourned until the second day to enable Stewards to consider the evidence that had been tendered.
Field Commander
It looks like the 11k final has been canned. The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. 1
karrotsishere
Not sure where to put this, but Hawera Race 3 Mackali - Winner - All Mic'd Up with A Poutama). Was thinking they walking around for ages. And he literally says “feels like we have been walking around for a while”. Worth a watch. https://www.facebook.com/trackchatnz/videos/668574301253672/
