Hesi
NZ's biggest carnival The best 3 horses produced in NZ in recent times, Melody Belle, Catalyst and TAS Very unlikely the 3 will ever race at Ellerslie Boxing Day/NYD Top 3 year olds like Catalyst will be 1000/2000 Guineas, then maybe NZ Derby and onto Sydney Autumn carnival Top or promising horses, Hawkes Bay carnival then Melbourne Spring carnival, then if any good put aside for Sydney in the Autumn That leaves the next down tier scraps for the premier carnival in NZ

That depends on whether you see Xmas./NY as the Premier Carnival, doesn't it? Yes, it used to be - cos that was Auckland Cup /Derby/Railway time. now, oly the Railway remains in its traditional spot. So the Premier carnivals are Derby/Cup week in March and Karaka Million late Jan. Personally, I'd prefer them to put the Railway (our premier sprint) to late Jan within the Karaka week, when all the international buyers are here for the sales. They could simply swap the Concorde and Railway dates. Edited November 12, 2019 by Maximus
Hesi
Yep, 1 superb carnival with 10,000 plus oncourse, to 2 forgettable carnivals(I'm leaving out the Karaka Million) Won't make any difference in the case I'm referring to. Melody Belle, TAS and Catalyst, won't turn up to the second either
Hesi
Good news, looks like we are going to see Catalyst in the Mr Tiz Sprint on Karaka Million night. I wonder if there were any phone calls from Peter Vela and David Ellis to Clayton Chipperfield, it's only a 70K race Te Akau Shark in the BCD Sprint on Feb 8 at Te Rapa
ngakonui grass
This may be the shape of NZ Racing to come and imo, based on nothing,i believe NZB will be having a greater say on progamming and on Racing in general. Nothing better than an uniformed conspiracy theorist
