Assault punishment very very weak.

A 30 year old idiot who attacked his pregnant girlfriend and earlier attacked his mother was sentenced to 14 months jail but the Judge in his/her wisdom  granted him leave to apply for home detention.WTF the police do their job and the judiciciary don't back them up.

I have a mate in corrections of 17 yrs service. The judiciary will try to stall sending them to a prison system woefully understaffed (especially after Covid and their persistence on mandates )and full to the brim and no room. Its a permanent shuffle around with inmates . At Rimutaka recently they had a recruitment drive and a set time for everyone to turn up. No one fronted, not one . No one is interested in working in the overworked toxic environment. They implemented 12 hour shifts late last year at Rimutaka, mostly because of short staffing. It backfired and loads more left because of burnout. Don't forget this isn't your normal desk job  , one is constantly working with and managing lowlifes and potentially dangerous people . Not for the fainthearted and the I think the average stay time for new recruits is very short.

Many years ago i interviewed for a position at Waikeria.Interview went well but i phoned before they made a decision and withdrew.

The enviroment was terrible and i wanted no part of it.
