Every race in NZ has a stake at least 2-3 times what it should, and the Group level racing is more like 4-5 times what they should be.

Mardi, are you saying that race stakes in NZ are more than 2 or 3 times what they should be and Group Racing is 4 to 5 times what they should be?

If so we what is your rationale for saying that?

It well might.   Unfortunate if so, but hardly surprising.     And the pissed-up crew that turns up on Cup Day wouldn't, in the main, know or care anything about the Guineas.

The NZ Cup, although deemed by many as a handicap for second-raters, is the race the average attendee has in his/her mind.

A new 3 year old series specifically for southern youngsters, generally less forward and mature than their northern counterparts, could take its place....with some innovative thinking.

You are probably right about the young ones but not the rest of us.

If you want to isolate yourself [the SI] from the rest of us, that is defeatist thinking and will take you further down the slippery slope.

Whilst it would have been great to win that $350K race restricted to South Island trained horses the other day, what a waste of money half of that stake was.

In other words the racing being worth $175K would have sufficed, with the rest spread elsewhere for all participants, even if it was in the SI.

Is that the new Guineas sale?

Surely these last few posts are a hang over from 1 April.

If not please post something official regarding the new Guineas sale or any other news release.

Talking about tracks BR, are you in a position to update us on what is happening with Trentham

Nothing and wont be. [You heard it here first]

Good night for the 2nd time.

Curious is the Whitebait fritter king. I looked at my Whitebait nets this morning actually Hesi, 3 of which I have & thought only a few months to go.

I don't know about the fritters but Buller is right up there as king of the whitebait, at least when I played for the Sub-Union.

Great post & incredibly perceptive Craig, a hug part of the track construction challenge is the turns & the camber & rise.

    Agree 100%

Why cant Auckland and all their crony supporters, acknowledge it?

    They simply fucked up.

No, I left because of an idiot here, that person took a back seat & I came back, I have limited tolerance for stirrers & fools Insider.

    Hesi, short answer is No.

Guys like RJB know more than I do on the subject obviously.

What I can say is NO process was not followed & nothing was skimped, all of that talk is fucking bullshit.

I think some are jealous that the upper North Island is where our sport is concentrated & love it when it fails for whatever reason. What they fail to understand is that if ellerslie fails then NZ racing is totally fucked & wont exist in 5 yrs.

Either get behind it & support or find an alternate interest as that's where it will fall.

Sadly your view is your view which simply follows the line.......give Auckland whatever they want and to hell with everything else... the Pattern of Racing, tradition, the Seasons etc etc.

Thank God the 1000 and 2000 Guineas are still being run a Riccarton.

Look what they have done to the the Wellington Cup Carnival.

I don't need to go on, but racing will go on with or without Ellerslie.

  11. Are you Leggy/Curious in drag?

I thought that you had thrown you toys out of the cot and gone anyway.

    What gives?

With the re-opening of Ellerslie in Jan 24, with the wonderful Strathayr track, you would think they could re-organise the picnics and boot parties.  Messrs Ellis and Vela might not like that though, the riff raff, might detract from the upmarket evening lol

    No thanks

Hesi, I was wasting a bit of time reading older threads and came across this posting of yours. As you have the ability to, can you edit it by removing the word wonderful? 😂

While I have concerns that they may still consider racing or even trialling on it until they are as certain as possible that the risks have been remedied, I think this is a much more comprehensive and detailed report of the outcome of today's work on the issue than we have been getting, and to me, sounds hopeful that it can be sorted.

Whilst in general I agree with you, I don’t think that there is too much of a risk trialling on Monday so long as the rail is in the innermost position
After all, that part of the track has been used of late without any problems.
In fact I have even recommended that my friends take their filly there to trial on Monday.

    Thanks from a galloping man.

Hopefully the rain stays away and doesn't spoil the party.

P.S. I cant believe I have only picked a horse drawn one on a front runners track, that is almost certainly to be, rain effected.

Maybe I should simply put a dollar on all of them!

Not defending them, just pointing out, that as you say a lot of money has been spent with good intent (why would it not be) but something has gone badly wrong.

I'm pretty sure heads will roll, and i think the main one will be Bruce Sharrock, even though he probably had little directly to do with Ellerslie

This is what Liz asked over on Race Cafe

Where has Bruce Sharrock gone too?

He's the boss but never has anything to say.

Even the few "news releases" appear to be written by Darin Balcombe from what I can see.

    Just wondering.

Maybe Hesi and her are secretly talking!

  16. Someone must have accidentally pointed your irrigation in the direction of your (Foxton) rain gauge.

Aren’t you now based in Rangiora?

  17. Curious, you are doing it to me again......... Levin is 12 minutes down the road and the official Rainfall for there for the last 30 days is 29.4 mm. [One whole month]

Yet you are trying to tell me that Foxton has had 116mm in the last 8 days!

I haven't read about any localized weather bomb hitting Flaxtown, have you?
