  1. To those that think weight doesn’t make any difference.
We let me tell you a little story.

Quite some number of years ago a 5 year old mare of mine won the Great Easter Hcp at Riccarton carrying 51kg with Terry Mosley aboard.

Are you telling me that on the same day she still would have won the race with 5kg more?

I didn't say weight doesn't affect the horse. I said the impact was minimal for the weight scale in use. I like that you don't believe me, as that keeps the numbers of punters in the dark at the highest level. Which helps me make more money. So please, don't change your thinking.

Maybe you could have a look at some of those races in Phar Lap's days. And tell me what sort of weight differences you can see between the top and bottom weight. Even though it will make no difference as these ideas are ingrained into you, you have no ability to see outside them.

I have no belief the weight Imperatriz carried had any impact on the result. You might assert it, but you have no evidence. Just another guess. As I say, I win, and I seriously believe you don't. So please ignore my ramblings and believe that I'm in fairy tale land. Enjoy your punting.

If you don’t believe that the weight carried by Imperatriz IN COMPARISON to Cylinder in the Newmarket, then you are simply in cloud-kuku-land.

The point Mardi and Curious and Barry are trying to get through, I think, is that there are far more factors that decide the winner of a race than distance covered, which is usually influenced by barrier draw and the ability to therefore get a good position in the running

Irrespective of their data, are they successful punters - as they make out? That is the question.
P.S. The “they” that I refer to are; Mardi, Leggy and Barry.

I was reading that Chad Ormsby, won a bull riding competition on the morning of the race

Yes amazing, obviously a very talented man with animals, but I always known that, as he previously rode my slow ones at the Pike Stable when he was a jumping rider.

I say slow, as at that time they didn't amount to much.

It was still a race for the 3rd best staying filly in NZ, which undermines the whole concept of G1 racing.

Make the Oaks 1 million and the Derby 2 mil, and get rid of this Karaka 1.5 mil bs race that isn't open to all horses anyway

    Agree 100%

Thanks also, you have been very kind and helpful, considering your former baby is a cot case

You would also have to say another Trentham iconic race, the Oaks, rooted by the big smoke

Possibly. At least it was a proper race where every horse got a fair chance because the pace was on the whole way and half the field didn't get unbalanced and flung out turning into the straight and as always the Lowland form out performed the Sunline Vase form.

So, if he was 'pushed', can someone explain how it might have worked.  Was it a vote of no confidence, did they call him to a meeting, did the chair just ring him up, or did they just get in touch with Peters and say this guy is not delivering and Peters gave him a call lol

I don't officially know, and my guess is no will ever officially know.

These sort of appointments don't work that way!

Don't expect a personal grievance claim in this instance, because as I said these sort of appointments don't work that way.

  8. Between a few of us on here we could solve most of the problems in no time, if given the chance, but you and I know, they don't like practical people with common sense.

I remember an old boss describing a Sales Rep from our competition 40 years ago. To me as a youngster, he looked pretty good. His response was; Don't worry about him, he's from the Silk Tie, Pearl Pin brigade.  In other words, he cuts a good picture but needs to dress up and say all the right things to impress, but in actual fact, is next to useless.

Bayliss, Brown and Allen all fit that picture, if I am not mistaken.

He is appointed as a director by the Members' Council but not as chair. He is elected as chair by the directors.

    Agree 100%

And he is only accountable to the racing minister Winston Peters.

If you are referring to Cameron George, he is appointed by the Members Council which is made up of people from Racing Clubs plus people from the thoroughbred sector groups such as the Trainers etc.

  11. Bruce Sharrock…..will he be next?

Hesi that’s a damn good question.

I guess that we will have to wait and see, but I don’t like moonlighters.  (I am referring to his Player Manager Business)

A few key points for the slow readers

    1.  A new state of the art wagering App/platform at the end of April

    2.  Paddy Power dog is all gone

    3.  A new TAB logo and colour at the end of April

    4.  A strong commitment towards free to air TV

    5.  30% of online betting with NZ'ers is with Bet 365

    6.  To date Entain have spent 30 mil more than their contract commitment

Add to the above, the “old Trackside Racing frequency’s”will soon once again be much more focused on broadcasting races.

It has partially started because it was my pleasure to listen to the last from Trentham when I was driving home, because I backed Zackery before leaving and he paid $21+ 😂

The 30 March Raceday, incorporating the G1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes, will now be held by Auckland Thoroughbred Racing at Ellerslie, and not at Te Aroha. After an inspection of the Te Aroha track last Friday it was evident that the current issues with the Te Aroha track will not be remedied in time to hold this important raceday.

    Grass grub they tell me.
That’s a new one to add to the long list of track stuff up’s, close downs etc.

  14. Good God, you buggers are tough. I thought that the Trentham track played beautifully yesterday. Horses could win from the front or the back, on the fence or out wide.
Every horse had a fair chance.

Wasn’t the Oaks a proper race? Pace on all the way unlike like every race at Ellerslie where George says every single time, “they have reduced the pace appreciably”. And the best horse won.

Have a look at a replay of the last race and tell me that the best horse didn’t win there and it was paying $21+. I know because I backed it 😂

Money isn't the attraction for me. A slot race means nothing except stake. And the owner negotiating will decide what their share is. But if I was Orchestral's owners, why would I even enter a negotiation. Races don't tend to be just second thoughts - horses tend to be trained for them. So the entire program of Orchestral would have changed.

And that applies to any horse. Their program leading up to the Kiwi is going to need to be based on having a desire to run in that race. Not deciding a month out that we are now switching from looking to the Derby to running in a 1500m race.

And the main issue for me would be the classics that race in Aus following the NZ Derby.

I'd expect an owner would want say 50% of the Kiwi stake to consider it. On your numbers that means 900k to the winner. Hardly more than winning the Derby which has G1 status. And easier to win the Derby given all those horses supposedly trying to gain entry to the Kiwi, if what you suggest is the case.

Exactly the same scenario on why Te Akau said NO to Imperatriz and The Everest.

  16. Hesi, seen as you are obviously interested in the sales and the end outcome, pop over to the other site and test your “yearling selection” ability against the rest of us.
