This won't help our situation, but is there anything stopping a club (such as Foxton), getting out of any alignment with NZTR, and just being a racing club and running club days it organises by itself .. With a feed and a few beers. Top end thoroughbreds may not be part of that of course - but a means to bring like minded people back to grassroots of racing.

You hit the nail on the head Hesi, lets be positive...how much do they have in the kitty to maintain freeloaders jobs and stakes ? ...by closing country racetracks in NZ, which should never have been considered, It's the very "fabric of NZ racing" machines on course instead of tote staff fewer meetings to have to find stakes for.. Budget handout TAB income Pokies revenue Borrow money for Building these White Elephants (more suited to somewhere with a population 10 times the size) Yeah VC, NZ will just become a base and nursery for Big satellite stables to Oz, obviously though, with hand on Heart, Kiwi and all , I hope they don"t fuck NZ racing for good and someone / group takes up the reins.

But like Mardigas memories of yearly trips to Waipukarau and Wairoa Cups and Enjoying those large festive country crowds are a thing of the past. How / Why are these big flash , waste of money grandstands that will only be full a couple of times a year ! @ Ellerslie and Awapuni in a couple of decades we will be looking back at the good old days of country racing. The Asset sales thing has been put in the "too hard" basket by over-paid fat-cats...whilst those" low paid" hard workers at the Coal face, showcasing the product, suffer to the tune of 30% cuts. why cant race-courses start their own housing developments in field (center track with a vehicle crossing?) ..(SHOWING MY IGNORANCE , NO DOUBT) instead of selling off historically loved iconic assets that locals frequent every year. (Bigger crowds than your average (Ellerslie / Trentham / Riccarton).Saturday or mid weeker.

I was going to start a tipping service, LOL...I should put a tenner a win on both and a $2 Quin...would be well and truely up this year ! Where-as in reality,....
