mardigras Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 $50k worth of prizes up for grabs in Betfair data modelling competition (punters.com.au) If you are a betfair account holder, register and submit pricing based as per link - and be in to win decent prizes. I tried to register however they stated I didn't meet all their criteria. It would be great to see what LogLoss numbers are winning the prizes. My numbers are as low as 0.06 for a meeting average, with an overall meeting average of 0.14. If reading this and is unsure of the LogLoss calc, let me know and I'll describe it. 1 Quote
curious Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Pretty good prizes and more my style for a comp than what we get elsewhere so I'm having a crack. Here's a snip of one race from the sample submission form so you can see what is required for that. Seems important to understand what the LogLoss calc is since that's the measure used to determine the winner for the comp but you don't necessarily need to be able to calculate it yourself. market_start venue race_no win_market_id selection_id tab_number runner_name win_probability 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 8418023 1 Mr Exclusive 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 41408129 2 Our Last Cash 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337149 4 Suparazi 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 3995957 5 William Thomas 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 26982076 6 Zorros Dream 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337150 7 Anilla 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337151 8 My Yankee Girl 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 38382410 9 Crestani 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 45737345 10 Quang Tri 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337152 11 Boldinho 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337153 12 Stormbolt 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337154 13 Xtravagant Star 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337155 14 Harbin 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337156 15 Bews 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337157 16 Electric Impulse 7/10/2023 12:25 Flemington 1 1.21922818 61337159 18 Etienne 1 Quote
Dancing Show Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Hi Curious, I just looked at the site. Does this mean they don't actually need you to upload your R regr calcs for example, you just need to state a probability figure ie. 36.35? Quote

Yes, from an analytical approach, it is more interesting to me than most forms of comp - however this comp is very limited in only 4 meetings - but makes it short and sweet. For the purposes of the comp itself I think you only need to submit the probabilities. I've only scanned the info briefly at this stage but you do have to submit your calc sheets in order to claim any prize that you win. One blank submission file will be available from www.betfair.com.au/hub/datathon by 11:59am AEDT the day prior to the nominated race day. Updated Punting Form data will be uploaded to the above link by 11:59am AEDT the day prior to the nominated race day. As per the terms and conditions, code files will need to be submitted at the conclusion of the competition to be eligible for prize money. I've attached the Ts&Cs if you want to have a close look. curious Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Got that wrong. In the T&Cs it says: all submissions must be accompanied by a .txt file containing code script demonstrating the methodology of creating the submission as described in clause 11; 1 Quote
