Are digital platforms such as chat forums a future viable means of engagement

I notice on another site, suggestions along this line being made

"In a previous  life! I had talks with the then ceo about the need to be using digital platforms (like the then embryonic RC), to enable 'voices' to be heard! they couldn't see past the troubles of having to deal with Robust debate!!!"

I fail to see why organisations such as NZRB/NZTR would engage with mainly anonymous people, mainly sounding off, and then endure a degree of personal denigration.  Until these 2 obstacles can be found a way around, then they are not a solution or partial solution

Agree, some confuse robust debate with personal attacks. Both sides need to be open to feedback and debate from a genuine and honest agenda. Unfortunately, neither side gets this it seems. The 'art' of listening is a forgotten skill in many ways.
