The hallowed halls of English cricketing power must be reverberating.

Unheard of stats for a test match

England score 300 runs for 5 wickets in 50 overs on the 5th day to take the 2nd test, and with another 22 overs still available to them.

NZ, only the 4th team in the history of test cricket, to score 553 plus and lose

Bairstow misses a 120 year record of the fastest English test century, by 1 ball

Captain Ben, plunders 75 late in the day, with a crook knee

A test match for the ages, we were just on the wrong side of the outcome.  Roll on the 3rd test

yes a Test for the ages...now that we colonials have shown  England thee way to rediscovering the Jpy of Cricket, can we have Baz back now, please?

FWIW, Max's view is that Latham missed a big trick by not bowling Bracewell earlier on Day 5 which would have allowed the quicks to rotate from t'other end)..and Mitchell or even Nicholls should have been given a couple of overs just because they havent faced him/them. In the enforced absence of Jamieson (and no Wagner spite) ANYTHING unexpected would have been helpful.

We were still very much in it...if we had got Stokes soon after Bairstow with even 30-40 required ...

WELL DONE, ENGLAND.

The talent was always there with England, same players, they just had to be given belief in themselves, and that is what McCullum did.  He's a racing man too.

Is there a parallel there with the Warriors, just the right coach to give them belief and as you say PJ, an on field leader, like England now have with Stokes
