PWJ
THE NPC SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP Semi-Finals - Sat Oct 29 The Finals are here ! No Jokers to worry about just a straight dog-on-dog fight. Snooze and you lose ! A word of warning here. I have included 4 meetings so we can get a result on Saturday and not have to go to a conclusion on a later date. If 6 or more races are run then the Saturday result will be Final so give your placement of your best bets some thought. The Kats vs The Chiefs - The Kauri Kats finished 4th and with the 4th best aggregate but The Chiefs won the Minor Premiership with only the 5th best aggregate. In fact the Chiefs between them have only won 17 HTHs against the Kats 22 HTH wins. So maybe more even than a 1st vs 4th seed match might normally be. Serendipitous Six member Pam takes on Magnificent Seven star Robert in the tie of the match. How do you separate The Turbos and The Swamp Foxes ? The two highest scoring teams in the comp but only one can make the Final. Team selection strategic bets look crucial in this showdown. The Swampies have won more HTHs but The Turbos have a better aggregate. Match-up of the tie ? Has to be Magnificent Seven double-header Maria vs Ray. Gary (a seemingly perennial Unfortunate Five squatter) comes up against a very serendipitous Our Maizcay. Anything could happen..... Meanwhile on the other side of the tracks, some face-saving is going to be attempted in the Presidents Semis. The Otago boys didn't win many matches in the Round-Robin but one of their victims was The Ferdies outfit who they come up against here, once more. The Ferdies may have finished 10 points better off and with 4 more HTH wins but their aggregate was over $600 inferior to The Highlanders. Intriguing contest for sure. The Blues ended up with a better aggregate and more points overall but the wily Magpies won just as many HTH encounters. The losers will be candidates for the Wooden Spoon next week and no one wants that "honour"..... Interesting selection of races across 4 venues with the decider (comp race 10) a real toughie - country horses and trainers desperate for a half a million in prizemoney and virtually every horse a winning chance ! My tips: Chiefs, Swamp Foxes, Ferdies, Blues Selections Close off at 11.00 a.m. (NZ time - note earlyish closing time) Races are: 1. Matamata R1 - 12.00pm - Revital Group 2000 - $30k, 2000m, R65 BM 2. Matamata R3 - 1.06pm - CW Cole Racing 1050 - $30k, 1050m, R65 BM 3. Awapuni R7 - 4.31pm - Mode Technology Feilding Gold Cup (LR) - $65k, 2100m, open hdcp 6. Flemington R5 - 5.00pm - TAB Linlithgow Stks (Gr2) - $500k, 1400m, hdcp 7. Flemington R6 - 5.40pm - Coolmore Stud Stks (Gr1) - $2m, 1200m, 3yos SWs 8. Flemington R7 - 6.20pm - Penfolds Victoria Derby (Gr1) - $2m, 2500m, 3yos SWs 9. Rosehill R9 - 7.20pm - Four Pillars Midway - $500k, 1500m, BM 68 hdcp In the very unlikely event of less than 6 races being run, the Semi-Finals will conclude on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington.
