  1. Race 10 (4.42pm) - #10 Beyond The Horizon, top 4 at $2.50.

I think this is worth a go. Just like Father's Day, you always know what you're going to get (I got a card and chocolates this morning!).

This trotter is no star, and doesn't win out of turn, but you know what is going to happen. The old boy will be safely away, and put in an OK run, and be there or thereabouts. Which in the trotter's R40-R49 grade, is half the battle.

Hang on, the left don't like punters as they encourage animal cruelty! The only kind of solution is to cancel racing of all kinds. Problem solved.

    Great post Happy.

Last Friday afternoon this subject was discussed on the leading commercial radio station in the country, Newstalk ZB.

I can see greyhound racing being closed down within 5 years in NZ. Soon after that, the horse racing will be targeted even moreso.

My perception (hopefully not reality), is unfortunately, there is a growing percentage of the general NZ public that take a dim view of dog and horse racing. The predominantly left-wing media certainly doesn't help things either, and will put the boot in wherever possible. To be fair, some industry participants (eg. Trainers), really don't help racing's cause, by doing bloody stupid things such as doping, or committing fraud via race horses.

Probably getting off topic a bit, but I think if whips were to be banned (still carried by jockeys/drivers, but their use during a race banned), this would go some way to stalling the inevitable.

    I can't stand 'early doors'

How did this term come into vogue?

It's an old saying that one Happy. Some say it goes back to the early theater days where patrons would pay extra coin, to be allowed to enter first (early doors), to pick their seats.

But where/when the hell did the parked position, become "the chair"?!?! Soon after M Cross started the full time calling gig, post Mark Mac? I can't stand it... the chair. Keep an ear out for it next time, it's in almost every race.

If you want to see something from the 'Ripley's believe it or not' file, have a look at Ross Cameron's drive on Saginaw last night. Brain fade?

I'm not a professional driver but I'm just trying to think of the rationale behind not pulling out of the one-one, when entering the home straight.

Just before the home straight, on the final bend, it looked like the horse was being niggled at, to try and keep up with the parked horse (or what Matt Cross calls "the chair", god I hate that term). The commentator said that 3rd quarter was 27 something. Perhaps the driver was thinking there was not much gas in the tank to pull out and try run past the runners in front, so instead he was to try for an inside run.

Doesn't quite make much sense to me, so you're probably right Happy, with the brain fade explaination.

You went pretty well there, Rusty.

Life of Art gave a great site in a full on race.

Small profit overall, but it was just good to have some local racing back after a short break.

Life of Art was looking good for a while there, did a wee bit of work, so despite folding the last 150m, still happy enough with the run, considering.

  6. Last two races at Addington, I think I have spotted two good each way bets.

Race 11: #5 Adieu Flirt (John Hay) at $6's and $2.30 FF. Handy enough draw, just wouldn't want to end up parked the trip (1980m), but good enough that it may not matter. If she lands in front and the #1 (Evangalist) is on her back, then God help her, but the $2.30FF place price will help.

Race 12: #13 Life Of Art $7.50 and $2.40 FF. Again, I think this is good ew money on offer. Not going to be easy, drawn outside of the 2nd row over the 1980m but the 3yr old Art Major gelding has more toe than a Roman sandal. The $2.90 fave Firefox is a cat. I haven't looked up the stats but the money always seems to be on this thing that has had almost more seconds than Aussie galloper Tom Melbourne.

    Happy Punting everyone.

But be more careful than usual, as it's "Gambling Harm Awareness" week.

Katie Cox is on a roll with this horse and I am really happy for her. You think you will get more on the tote? See it into 8s with the scratching of Chief of Staff. If Spy Da Moment wins, or even runs second, he will be will be well on the well to being in the Dominion.

Possibly more on the tote, it'll be interesting. "Top 2" fixed odds may be worth a look, for a multi-builder.

I hope the Dominion does come into the picture, would be great to see.

  8. Hey Happy, hope you've been keeping well.

I actually think Spy Da Moment (10's fixed), can beat Sundees Son. Rock hard fit, tough bugger that can work in the running and an owner-trainer-driver, which will be even more of an advantage than normal (given the last few weeks if you know what I mean. 10 minute jogs etc). Small field so it will become quite tactical, but at 10's it's overs and worth a go.

My ole mate Buckskin is appearing, but I will only be taking notes, in preparation for that green stuff they race on in s few weeks (hopefully).

  9. For Addington stats in the form guide (cell phone/mobile site), one would think they would ditch the grass track stats and replace them with the All weather slushy track stats. Grass stats are irrelevant for Addington, and on days like today, the slushy track stats can be a good pointer.

  10. Time In A Bottle, a lot later out on track than the rest of the field, ahead of race 7. Love seeing this mare in her prelim. She absolutely smokes the first lap in the prelim before she races. First time I saw this, I thought does the driver know it's a standing start, and there's no need to leave the gate with gutso?!

Used to pull a bit in her races, but this wee trick seems to have solved the problem.

(Posted pre-race, so she will probably pull her head off now)

  11. John Morrison is in good form at the moment, that win on Champagneandwine was very well rated in front, to hold on and score.

He's one of the drivers now, where if I see he is driving a horse I like, I think oh yeah that's fine by me.

But seriously, does anyone know if Kevin still has his mo?

Just been reliably informed that, yes he does. Not the fullish, fat slug so much, more of a chopper/Merv Hughes version these days.

  13. Loved hearing Kevin Payne call a couple of races tonight.

Been away from the com box for 11 years, but listening to him, one wouldn't have guessed it.

There were no horses running "under" others, no bikes, no bloody "sitting in the chair", it was refreshing, in an old school kind of way. Heck, Trackside even broadcast the Judge's call after Kevvie said on air, "here's the Judge"!

Great stuff, I will tune again next time for Forbury Park trots.

But seriously, does anyone know if Kevin still has his mo?

  14. A throw at the stumps from square leg...

    Race 8 - #4 Von Art, $11ff & $3.10ff good each way $ and should give a sight.

Race 9 - #6 Sunnivue Phileah, tote. Super consistent, bringing Addington form south and John Morrison looking for another win to add to his tally.

Race 10 - #11 Ah Mach, $15ff & $4ff Seems over the odds, and drawn outside of the second row, so up to N Williamson to weave some magic, but this mare has shown some promise to date.

So, when it won last time, it came out of the same draw to lead and then win in 2.25. It has gate speed and has used it to its advantage in past starts. Today, it jogs out of the gate, doesn't move, runs on for 4th down the outside of the track.

I seriously wonder about harness at times.

Part of the "Woodend watch" Happy?

The winner of the same race (today) has an interesting history too, just as a side note.

Gotta lengthen the odds  a bit Rusty.lol:classic_smile:

That thing got hammered on the tote, the last few minutes. Would have been very embarrassing if I had stopped a $1.30 shot!

5 back on the outer the trip at Addington last time and 10/9 in the betting so why didn't they get into the race last time?

Hmmmm... We can only speculate. No doubt, there will be at least one reason.

I didn't see the previous race, so can only assume you are correct Happy - so the question you asked, should have been asked in the stipe's room as a follow up question, one would have thought.

It was an "interesting" runner to follow on Sunday, and it will be "interesting" again to see it's next start.
