    The Ashes

This is just a segment of Cricinfo interview with Ashes centurion S. Smith...read it and weep (before he does when he counts the number of time he says the word "I" or '"me". About 20 ) "I didn't really know what to do to be honest, it's been a long time coming, but I'm just, I don't know, I'm sort of lost for words at the moment," Smith said of the moment he reached his century. "Just really proud that I was able to help pull the team out of a little bit of trouble. Obviously England bowled exceptionally well in the first two sessions and it was hard work out there, I'm just proud that I was able to dig in and fight through the difficult periods and get ourselves to a competitive total. "I think it has got to be one of my best hundreds, definitely, first Ashes Test match, the ball was doing a fair bit out in the morning so I had to work really hard. I got beaten a few times but I just had to let that go and concentrated on the next ball and kept digging in, I know that the first Test for an Ashes series is always big. I didn't want to give my wicket up easily, I wanted to keep fighting and fortunately I was able to dig in today and get ourselves to a reasonable total I think. "I thought Peter Siddle did a magnificent job, that partnership we were able to form and Nathan Lyon as well, he was magnificent. He actually said to me that's the most nervous I've ever been out in the middle batting so to be able to get to my hundred and give him a really big hug and let all my emotions out that was really special."
  11. two lots of nothing would still be nothing ...LOLOLOLOL ... alright Mrs W, don't be so impatient, I'll get offline now and massage your tail. Women! Cant live with em, can't live without em ...
  12. 'the 'old site' still works for me ...just can't find the Winter Draft early results on it ...no matter, tis all ancient history ad my Mustelid mind needs to focus on Saturday ...
  13. As a matter of interest, who can post the results from the Round Robin encounters between the semi-finalists??? Maximus recalls with considerable horror that he was thwacked by Hesi...but it must have been in Round 1 or 2 of the comp on the 'old site' ..and I can't find it ... come in PJ !!!!
  14. very gracious of you mate, thanks... cant say those big Riccarton fields make me confident with a sticky track likely ...I'm looking forward to it, all the same!!
  15. A big congrats to Hesi also for making it through all 7 matches of the Round Robin, undefeated ! Yes, well played indeed ... but rather than being intimidated into submission, this Mustelid prefers to take the view that he is now overdue for a LOSS. Any kinda loss will do. MM
  16. Jen will be so disappointed not to be having a Mexican Stand-Off v Gringo Roland
  17. Former Sydney Cup winner Stand To Gain lost form and went to Victoria after being sold ...won a Galleywood Hudle at Warrnamool and was placed 2nd in three consecutive Grand Nationals. There is a nice video about him on racing.com website ...he is now a dressage horse and clearly very much 'part of the family' at the stable!
  18. DOESN'T SAY ONLY IN THE ROUND ROBIN ..HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A MUSTELID CLUTCHING AT STRAWS?????????
  19. KKs are choosing to play the HTD as follows - unless someone can produce a Rule that says this is not acceptable! The sheer delight of Jen v Roland makes it worthwhile MM DREAM WEAVERS (2nd) vs KOOL KATS (3rd) Jill v Sharne Tom v Rob Maurice v Graeme Hesi v Maximus Roland v Jen
  20. Little Weasels have gone off to Sunday School so captain Maximus takes this moment of peace to report on events of yesterday, in no particular order. Rugby . The ABs were cabbage. Prob the worst handling display I've seen from them in years. Winter Comp. Pleasant surprise to see the Kool Kats got up in a tight finish with the Found Marbles; only Sharne's brill BB Quinella in the last saved our bacon. Well played, Marblers. Overall, we KKs deserve our spot in the Fab Four and hopefully can put in a top team effort next week (without employing certain 'group strategies' adopted Formidably yesterday by a team that failed to qualify! LOL). Many thanks as always to PJ for the scores and timely updates that make these Comps so much fun. Must awa' ...Mrs W is shakin her tailfeather in that provocative way again ... MM
  21. A bit of a clue posted earlier??? Yeah well done with the idea Rees
  22. ah yes the Team Tactics come up short again ..no harm trying and a Formidable performance today but it is fraught with danger and I see no Formidables in the Final Analysis. My view will always be that you should back yourself to beat your opponent and trust your team-mates to do the same - with no team talks, conferences or whatever influencing selections ... I jut LOVE the fact that Jen/Graeme/Sharne/Rob/.. etc we don't need to talk to anyone else (incl each other) to decide our strategy or picks ... even when a Playoffs berth is on the line. Looking forward to next week!
  23. Hi PJ Can you please check Graeme's selections for the Ryder Stakes ...I fear you may have missed it ... R4. 1&8
  24. noted Rees ..but one can only the hole Formidables will spoil a certain other team's party!
