  1. Just thought that with all that is going on, that people might want to reminisce with some of your  favourite memories and stories in racing, sport, betting coos and oh so close stories etc.

I got the racing bug when in the school holidays,I would go to my grandparents and go with my grandfather (owner/trainer)morning and  night to the stables, feeding, separating(shit)and cleaning!Loving every minute of it,especially walking the horses to the track through the gap in the hedge at the 600m mark of the Waipa track and watching them work, priceless! My reward from memory was a 50c double on a Saturday 😊

  2. There are lots of questions to be answered  by Petone and it looks like they need to use these next 6 months to sort out their house! Also to put the lifes of the people working within  the industry and the sport itself as the number one priority.

First question for debate with the experienced and knowledgeable  people on here is...

Who actually owns the TAB? And what is the best way forward and the future for the sport in the next few years?

    (1) may have been the answer for 3000m+ - as has raced in 3000m races a lot. As well as a number of 3200m. But not enough of those at 3200m (He's a real tryer - 158 starts so far at last count)

    (2) Charles Road - not quite Midnight Caller - has only has about 5 or 6 runs at 3200 (WST has had 10 3200m starts). Hartnell, also only around 4/5 starts at 3200m

I'll drop an easy one in the middle here, for a bit of light relief

Apart from the obvious, what was a common thing about all of Winx's race starts as 5, 6 and 7 year old

  5. Solid result the Fame team!

Another great commentary from PJ, like a thriller novel rolling off the keyboard! I just hope my teammates get into character next week! Tough task next week.

Are you talking about racing while we are on lock down?

If that’s the case I think that would be a sure fire way to piss the general public off.

No Tonka! Hesi was starting a new thread from my comments on another  thread. Maybe Hesi or Pete could paste it on this thread for general  debate and ideas while there is no racing .

    Cheers

  7. Just thinking out loud Freda! With all that is going on,I see this break in racing as quite possibly the only chance they have  to try and get things right for the security of employment and the longitivity of the sport.Dear I say it,but this situation we are in could be used as the excuse behind some radical decisions for the future. There are some experienced and intelligent people on this site who I am sure can put forward  some suggestions. Hesi, maybe a new thread to get discussions going?

  8. Did I read somewhere that NZ has only 152 ICU beds(that's worrying)? Also presume you have makeshift emergency ICU on standby. I know a few were scoffing at Boris and the way he was going about things, but imo he has got it right and taken the right long hard road which simply takes the huge pressure off the essential  services by pumping the breaks and going down through the gears! Cindy has pretty much followed suit, we here are a few weeks ahead of NZ and we are getting into the groove of this system  for the good of the country. It is about protecting the  vulnerable!

On the racing front, here's  hoping this kick starts a new phase in NZ racing with a two tier system.Thoughts of maybe 3 race days per week,bigger/better fields ,better prize money and a better product all round. The smaller  clubs who are bound to get the cut now,go it alone and run as community clubs that are on- course only(maybe bookies 😜)and scheduled on the  calendar to run as a circuit of 3 or 4 clubs as per the west coast, when they know attendance will be at its highest .Also I would keep the jump racing (north island) 2 courses only, say Te Aroha and a venue in the central  districts, racing all year round.

    Be safe

Yep, the ignore column. Although I think he refers to it in regards horses with fewer starts, not fresh up horses.

I like the idea of the fresh legs title!Winners  galore in the first week back racing!

  10. When racing around the world does begin after a 3+ month layoff, do we all wipe the betting slate clean and all start with new BPs?Surely! For example, 3yr olds become 4yr olds:classic_ninja:

Had a sizeable bet on this horse, as i figured it is going to be my last on NZ racing for a while

A lot of talk for it last start, but had a tough run, then the rain arrived and sure enough it arrived easily

Got home hoping to bask in one last glory and watch a replay on NZTR, but to my horror(picture me rolling) it is the only one of the races at Beaumont today that had no video replay.

    No post-race winners please T!

Hypothetically thinking! If NZ had already in place two racing complexes (north and south)with training, racing and accommodation in lock down, could they have finally cornered the sports market?:classic_ninja:

    What say thee now?

Time to expand and get the RP online card school going!Could be a membership grabber
