mardigras
Definitely no Shraaoh - unlike Verry Elleegant. 3rd acceptances out shortly.
Maximus
I feel connections are asking a great deal - probably far too much - of Verry Ellegant. I just cant see her outstaying these strong internatioal gallopers. Hope she doesn't start. I fancy the chances of Surprise Baby, though. My post above was meant to read 'unlikely', not 'unlike' - as she was not expected to pay up yesterday.
Globederby19
Oh dear, as our Centre piece in the Southern Hemisphere, the Melbourne Cup has been hijacked by the Northern Hemisphere. Bit like the Arc de Triomphe being full Australian and Kiwi raced horses. It has become farcical and a sad indictment on our breeding for speed. At least our Harness boys here in NZ have been proactive in selecting decent breeding stock both Pacing and Trotting ,to the point of exporting most of our good ones to the detriment of local racing unfortunately. Cant have it both way I suppose.

And now 2nd and 3rd rate NH horses are superior staying horses to locals. For me, I like it but that is probably because I also follow UK racing. But most Australians don't and therefore don't align with the runners to the same degree.
