Well this is odd. In the earlier press release we were told that Hastings was ok.

Now this - I'm totally confused as to why Hastings wouldn't be available at the end of May.

    Raceday

Due to the unavailability of both the Te Aroha and Hawke’s Bay tracks the following changes have been made:

Friday 8 March: This will now be a Taupo RC meeting at Taupo. The Mdn 1600m that was programmed will now be a Mdn 1750m while the Mdn 2200m race will become 2000m.

Thursday 23 May: This Hawke’s Bay meeting has moved to Sunday 26 May and will now be a Woodville-Pahiatua RC licence at Woodville.

    Trials

With the movement of the above raceday, and other club-related issues, the trials for the Northern region will now be as follows:

Tues 27 February: Now Matamata trials.

Tues 12 March: These trials have been pushed back 48 hours to Thursday 14 March due to the Taupo track being unavailable on the Tuesday.

    Has me beat.

I never got one but I had put my bets on in the morning and  was logged out for the rest of the day.Perhaps they  only gave the bonus bet

    to those logged in.

I was logged in and couldn't get a bet on.

    TAB

I'm in good company then 🙂

It's pretty weird. People seem to have randomly got zero, $10 or $20? No explanation how they decided that?

Surely that is not a decision Sharrock could make

No, I think he was just reporting it. Sounded like it came from the new government and the TAB has gone along, though NZTR no doubt didn't object. Just my take on what I heard though. Might not be gospel. Likely be some kick back though if that is the case.

What? Are you saying the TAB will be allowed to retain pokies. What a effing joke.

I'm pretty sure the TAB said they'd remove them and the government said it would be a condition for geoblocking or similar legislation. My memory may be deceiving me but I'm pretty sure Sharrock was indicating that would no longer be the case. Hopefully, someone will correct me if I mistook that.

  4. On that note, it sounds like the removal of the class 4 gaming business ain't going to happen and they are confident that legislation will be passed making gambling with overseas providers illegal for NZ residents. Not so clear whether that will include geoblocking or similar.

Yes, but if racing in NZ is going to be sustainable, surely that rise should be largely coming from NZ racing, not offshore racing. Otherwise the sustainable aspect of NZ racing has nothing to do with NZ racing. It becomes sustainable because of funding from other sources. Brilliant.

I wish my bakery was allowed such largesse.

Sharrock said they were looking for pots of gold wherever they could find them.

  6. From yesterday's NZTR roadshow. Just scribbled these down but think I have them right.

Interesting he states they provide much more support early on, so they don't have issues - and yet, here we are.

Yes. It's hard to work out whether it's a lack of advice from Strathayr or a failure of ATR in following that. Wilcox has already said that there was a discrepancy between what they did in the week leading up to Millions day, from what Strathayr said they should have done. Wilcox also said the track needs resting for the winter to allow further development of the surface.

Regardless, it seems very risky to ATR, NZTR and the RIB to proceed with racing there given the limited testing and actions that we know about since the poor performance of the track. Hopefully, the weather complies and they don't have to discover whether it is safe in the face of any light rainfall again.

I'm not sure what the jumpouts told them - they weren't going particularly quick. I can walk slowly on a skating rink and not slip or fall over.

My sentiments exactly. Going round at jumpers pace is not exactly a test and Wazza is quoted as saying the track is only as good as it was before the Millions, but needs more work which he suggests should be achieved by racing on it? Phantomcoring removes 1% of organic matter. Sounds like a more significant renovation is needed.

Has it stalled or is there further information available?

What are the plans regarding a "greenfields" racecourse with training facilities or is that now forgotten?

Give Butch a ring. He's the CEO.

  10. I think one of the main reasons was that they thought they were losing punter spend to off shore FO bookmakers and that would accelerate if they did not offer a competing product.
