NRL 2023 Comp Round 27

$40 NRL bet this week to anyone who correctly picks 8 correct results.  Draws included, but it is after 80 min, no extra time.  If you are good enough to pick a draw after 80 minutes, then it becomes too much luck with golden point, so should be rewarded.  Jackpots each week by $20.  Please note prize shared in the unlikely event more than one picks correctly

Expect lots of surprises this week with teams resting players before the finals

2.  Richie will put up a $10 multi bet on the NRL the following week to the person picking the most correct results, shared if more than one.  Can only be claimed if no one hits my jackpot

Please note also, there will be a comp for the finals, involving 9 games over the 4 weeks

Rusty and myself have  a $10 NRL  bet to have this weekend. Globederby does too but doesnt want his so I will put a multi on his  picks for first 5 games and use winnings for comp

Can I please go Storm 13+ into Panther 13+ for the $10 multi?

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry about no updates but my life is so busy at the moment ,in fact I'm at work as I write this.Heading to Auckland for 2 weeks as my daughter gets married next Friday .Hopefully the Warriors game will be on Saturday or Sunday.

So Rusty has all 6 games correct so far and has the Titans and Sharks which everybody has the Titans so he is guaranteed to win either Hesis pot  or a $10 nrl bet by himself

6 wins- Rusty

5 wins - Godzstar , Zabeel

4 wins - Richie, Mardy, Tonkatime

3 wins- Black Caviar,  Maximus,  Hesi

As you can see from that, it will be Warriors vs Penrith on Friday, at Penrith

The Warriors actually have a very hard finals pathway.

You would have to be very optimistic to believe they could beat Penrith at Penrith, which means they get a second chance, playing the winner of Newcastle/Canberra at home, probably Newcastle, the form team late in the comp

Had they not put in a depleted team against the Dolphins yesterday and won, they would have been playing the Broncos in the finals, and even a loss to them would have seen a home game against either the Sharks or Roosters, potentially an easier pathway than what they now face.

Perhaps a blunder in strategy

Newcastle vs Canberra in first round is not confirmed yet, likely but Canberra could upset Sharks today

resting a bunch of players with niggles has to help and perhaps the Warriors didn't mind playing title favourites Penrith in the first week of the play-offs because it means avoiding them in the semi-finals (or preliminary final) should they get that far

perhaps a masterstroke in strategy...can you imagine the uproar if Shaun Johnson (and others rested?) had been carted off yesterday and were out for the Finals? Having been dumped on by the Dolphins, praps the Panthers and others will get a tad complacent, esp playing at home.

Panthers are a machine, unlikely

You are drawing a long bow there Maxi.  A bit like the supposed learned commentators who are dismissing or making light of the relevance of the AB's incurring an all time record defeat 2 weeks out from the WC

check yer records and you'll find the ABs lost their last warm-up match before winning the World Cup (twice, I think but can't be sure which years!)

Which makes the thrashing by the Boks largely irrelevant, except as a further incentive to front up when it matters most.

some stats from Max on ABs prior to their winning World Cup tourneys/journeys

1987

Previous Test had been in late ’86, lost to France (3-16), Nantes

2011

Lost to both S Af (5-18) then Australia (20-25) before going on to win RWC in NZ

2015

ABs had lost to Aus (19-27)in Sydney then beat them at Eden Park (41-13) before winning RWC in UK

Yes, but no record thrashings.

Sorry mate but the cracks are there, and it is what everyone will be being a wiseguy about after the event, if we don't win.

We also had far better teams in 87, 11, and 15, and the NZRFU wasn't being run in such a shambolic way
