South Island Stake money

Just a quick tally up from the NZTR website

Aug 22 - March 23       13.4 mil

Aug 23 - March 24       17.7 mil

Comparable period only as stake money levels not available past March 24

An increase of 32%

In addition, throw in the SI race in April 24 for horses only trained in the SI of 350K, and a doubling of the stake for the Southern Mile, which I presume is run in the SI, from 100 to 200K.  Yes at Wingatui

You seem to place a high importance on stake as opposed to interest. And development of infrastructure, process, skills - what money is being spent there.

Interest will not increase because stakes increase. That is a given. It needs to have the fundamentals of course management, processes around racing. integrity and skills in order to make the racing more attractive to potential parties.

No, you are jumping to conclusions.

It was actually a post in response to Freda's comment that the improvement in stakes did not seem to have filtered down to the SI

Wasn't actually referring solely to stakes.  After all, there were plenty on offer Cup meeting.

Its the structure and opportunity that frustrates down here, the unsuitable dates, programmes that don't suit, stakes are not really the issue,  it's the chance to compete that is being dumbed down.

It's not that difficult an exercise to change either. Instead of pre-defining race programmes, make the programmes reflect the demand. A number on here have described ways of doing this which are not overly cumbersome.

That's like the US model that has been in place for decades, if not longer.

Pretty simple really.

The condition book is the schedule of races for a given track during a certain period of time, usually a few weeks or a month. It is this schedule that provides a framework for trainers to develop the training regimens for their horses for this time period. While this seems straightforward, there are a number of factors that can change the timing of races. You see, just because a race is in the condition book doesn’t mean that enough horses will enter the race to warrant it being used. That is why you’ll see substitute races in the book as well. These are races that also get entries and can be used in place of another race on the card. Fortunately, stakes schedules are typically published weeks or months ahead of time, so with certain horses planning ahead is much easier.
