Remember when

You got your TAB ticket issued on a handwritten duplicate yellow slip of paper

Horse racing was shown live on TV1 with Glyn Tucker

Luke Radich was on Trackside

NZ had carless days

NZ had TV licences, and vans would roam around detecting people without them

I remember the yellow tickets. I used to get my Mum to take me down to the Glen Eden TAB and put on a 50c double for me.

I seem to recall the races closed for betting 90 mins before the start.

All your Labour voters would'nt have bought TV licences.

Pack N Save was called No Frills & you used to right the prices on the produce with a black felt pen.

Hannahs and Hallensteins were the only mens stores for shoes or clothes. Shopping at Farmers was a luxury.

Ham Steak with a pineapple ring and chips was dining out.

I voted for the Nats back then

I think they had one in Henderson

Good quality and the good prices, now it is all about brands, which is an excuse to charge double, everything made in China though

Don't forget the coleslaw

Shops weren't open at the weekend.

We all had big vege gardens.

Used to get a free saveloy from the butcher or freezing works.

Chicken was expensive and you had it once a month if lucky.

Oh yes, the rest of the time, there was a fair bit of tripe, tongue and lambs fry served up

I used  to get a haircut for two bob.

Fish n chips occasional treat- 1s 6d and we had some left over

I'd pack lunch in a duffle bag and go off riding all day on my own.

Dad said the unemployed were unemployable.

The day off for stable staff was Sunday after the morning work was done.

Schoolchildren had to give up their seats on the bus for older folk.

Dad again - reckoned that accountants should never be allowed to run the business. Muldoon his point.

Still is around here except for those of us that have to come back and feed up in the arvo and mow the lawns in between.

Haha.... me too...any wonder I can see a bright spot in the first time in 45 years that I haven't worked - physically - seven days a week.
