Blackie
Alright, back on topic. Bonny wee mare Robin Dundee right there, first to the post in the Miracle Mile in the first sub 2.00 minute mile in the southern hemisphere. Amazing to think she’d tail the field by some 150m today, but then with her heart, she would’ve kept up I reckon. Just watched a u-tube replay of race, and Bob Cameron easily out-drove the Aussie rivals. Didn't bussle her at all at the start. Robin Rounded them up from 5th position down the back and waltzed away on her own up the home straight, with the very first Miracle Mile run Win, for New Zealand. ( a huge crowd too, only 2nd in numbers, to another Nz great CADUCEUS, winning the Interdominion Final there at Harold Park in front of 50,000 people. geeez....) Blackie
Bob would have been one of NZ’s most astute horseman, ever. He was so hard to beat in front as he had a great judge of pace, run them then stack ‘em up, sprint again, it really was an art, magic to watch. Truly excellent horsemen.
Lightning Blue
For todays Trivia , If Luke McCarthy can do the near 'impossible' and win the Miracle mile from the outside barrier with Expensive Ego , he will be the first driver to take out 4 Miracle Miles. (after winning the last 3 with the now retired champ King Of Swing) Can you name the Two other drivers with 3 Miracle Mile victories ? (clue = one kiwi, one Victorian)

Lance Justice the Victorian trainer with 2 x Smoken Up's wins at Menangle and a Sokyola at Harold Park. Just saw Vic Frost as well as his 2 big wins with Westburn Grant in the late 80's , had also won the MM with Lucky Creed from QLD going way back near the Mount Eden days . so Vic with 3 as well. Mark won it as a driver with Spankem. And as a trainer with Have Faith In Me. karrotsishere
Results time - how did the Experts go? Catch a Wave WIN AND Spirit (Lou) 2nd Winners time 1:48:8 Derby Better Be the Best WIN, Naturally Gifted (Lou) 2nd Expert Forbs said Sprit of st Louis will have to do a power of work just to hold its spot & if it leads it has no chance as they won't be going any 30 second quarter in this. he might get the trail but it might not help with no sprint lane. Expert Davis said You are right St Louis won't cop a 1:47 but he won't be the only one. There's only two or three in that field capable of something like that. That's what I'm saying if they go that pace it is set up for Honolulu Bay or Captain Ravishing to come from off the pace, but you can't be too far off the pace, need to be two lengths behind at most... Expert Forbs said sprit of st Louis only chance is a slow run race. i doubt he will be in it if they go 147 or better Expert Forbs said mach dan must make it a crazy first half and that will set it up for her other runners. that will make sprit of st Louis in a world of hurt. im leaning your way as Emma said the captain is her fastest horse by far and that's a statement Expert Forbs said after race great run by sprit of st Louis. sprit of st Louis was a great drive to finish in its best possible position he had to hand up great drive. Globederby19
Catch a Wave is a very good horse. First quarter in 25.5, so burnt early and kept it up. Spirit had his chance and Honolua had a cushy run in the one one. No excuses. Captain Ravishing came home pretty well from way back but boy he is still green.

Yes and finished 3rd in the other 2 races, being Nz Cup and Nz FFA (behind Robalan the free legged whiz.) So Young Quinn not far away at all, from taking the 5 Big races Grand Slam. I've found 4 x kiwi horses with Victories in 4 out of the 5 of those Open Class races .

But have found five nz horses that won 4 of the 5. (Miracle Mile NSW has to be one of them) Robin Dundee : winner of the very First Miracle Mile , The Nz FFA, Auckland Cup, and dead heated in an Interdominion GF in Dunedin, and 3 x 2nd in the New-Zealand Cup . Oh so close !!! the greats of Lordship and Cardigan Bay himself stopping her achieving the great feat both beating her at Addington in the Nz Cup in the 1960's. They both never started in a Miracle Mile as were elsewhere by then, but Won all the Nz races listed sometimes off long handicaps, and Cardy won the Interdominion in Australia.
