THe style of helmet could be a clue as to era. My guess its Riccarton and a jumper maybe Koral.
  4. Sir, You should get this question on "who wants to be a millionaire." It would stop them in their tracks.
  5. The videos came back on last night. However not for everybody even for a TAB guy in Petone TAB Head Office. Apparentley there are working on the problem. Is anybody still not able to view race videos off the results or fields section of NZTR website ?

    Video Mystery?

Looks like NZTR still haven't solved their problem. However I have noticed Western Australia Trial videos also afflicted with the same problem. Seems TAB themselves have responsibilities converting videos to a cloud service and NZTR plonk the trial videos on youtube which works OK. Seems odd that NZTR and Western Australia suddenly have similar problems.

    Monday trivia

You got to love Jimmy Cassidy's humour. About Greg Hall on Doriemus "I've never seen someone celebrating so much for running 2nd."
  8. In hindsight one should have noted Pin Me Up ran faster than Bankers Choice when easily winning at Te Rapa.

64 dollar question. Waiting for patent and trademark approval.

You are reading more into this than required therefore deviating along the wrong road. The TAB still has the same betting but on top of that an oncourse system which promotes sponsors products as well. Women would more likely have a bet if there was a chance of winning a washing machine whilst hardened punters wouldn't mind shouting their kids a hard won prize. Think of it another way. Prior to race meeting much easier to target a town or suburb with an advertising publication soley of products and services.

    Bet365

You are right about the nitty gritty being kept to ones chest. The way I see it the TAB should be there to offer betting on everything everywhere in a way it could be taken over by an overseas agency. Local betting on local events kept separate so that it is merged with sponsors prizes making the clubs responsible for generating their own turnover and betting formats. Naturally law changes required. But surely if betting can be used as a promotional tool to generate business activity thats a good thing.

There is absolutely no need for bookmakers. They are dragging racing down. Given new technology and software clubs can bypass them completely.
  14. The activists have only themselves to blame for China's reaction. The evidence is clear that the US undermines links and either arms the opposition or uses sanctions against countries it disagrees with. Why should China allow that to happen. Jamie Richards going to Hong Kong won't be easy. Most Hong Kong trainers would gladly come in and head up the Te Akau team as you infer Therefore Richards is going backwards or shall we say sideways. David Ellis would have been in a quandary. With Mark Walker established as a partner in the operation more so than Richards and neither wanting to train in partnership then helping Richards get the Hong Kong position a convenient solution. Will be interesting how things develop.

    Drones

I think balloon drones have practically if made safe and don't just "float away" or fall in the wrong place. Might replace the rod for fishing.
  16. Didn't hear any interviews but rather mystified at this horse. Dosen't appear to have history of trainer changes and also has Taranaki connections. No show at recent New Plymouth jumpouts but trialled in Cambridge twice running fairly but not startling. Yet had some solid support against field of plenty backable horses. At a hunch my guess it was up in Cambridge for water walker use. If so shouldn't a trainer change be notified. Anyone hear the interviews or have some info.

Interesting article. Last I remember Mick Preston was 1965 Fielding races. Looked very dapper in trademark bow tie. http://www.theoptimist.site/mick-preston-was-once-the-stallion-handler-for-hyperion-for-lord-derby-in-newmarket/

    Mid-week trivia

Now you are embarrasing me. I was training a couple of steeds in New Plymouth which would have coincided with this horse but trying to remember. Incidentally I had Lance Robinson ride for me once or twice. Things were a bit quieter in New Plymouth then than nowadays. Malcolm Smith by far the biggest trainer followed by Frank Walsh. Counsel trained by Frank Walsh won more than once so counts that out. Must have been a Smith horse just by probability. Allen Baker I see has returned to training in Levin but would'nt be any of his. John Wheeler only had a couple. Clem Fabish had the Defence horses so not him. Nup you got me.

When you say grandson is that sire line or dam line. Couple of stallions by Hyperion in NZ were Rolled Gold and Red Mars.

    Drones

No I'm serious with electric racing. After all its compatible i.e. no noise. I know racing clubs organise golf tournaments but its something that could be exploited a bit further. e.g. a Friday tournament with the top four coming to the races Saturday and square of somehow in the middle of the track for a decent prize.
